Rekyht is one of many deities that got to choose their shape when summoned. As such, she chose to keep to her natural species, as many yokai do. It does good for their race to have representation in the deity world. Of course, bird yokai aren't especially common or powerful. Strong enough to stay alive, but not so strong as to be on anyone's radar. They're intelligent and good at staying OUT of the limelight.

Rekyht, originally born to parents that wanted her to take up the messenger vocation that many of their kind did, was different. She was gentle and kind, wanted nothing more than to nurture. To heal. When she began to study this sort of magic, her parents promptly disowned her-- who wanted a child that deliberately went against everything one tried to instil in it?

She lived a short life the first time, not even managing to marry with her lack of status and proper "grassquit" skills. Not that she minded the lack of marriage, but it also meant that she had to go without her dream of being a mother. She died without ever knowing a man. Her "legacy" died with her.

Like any other yokai, after death she was sent to Yomi, the yokai afterlife. It was so very different and yet so much the same. She was taken in as a handmaiden for the vapid daughter of a powerful yokai figurehead. It was by chance that she happened upon the deity portal to have her second birth back in the real world.

Of course, policy was that she fetched one of the clanspeople that she served so that they could go back. But... They were uninspired. They didn't need anything. They lived full lives and had full lives on this side to attend to as well. No, Rekyht would take this for herself.

It was mere coincidence that she was pulled into a place that craved a fertility goddess. At first, she was ecstatic; surely this would be her chance to have children of her own-- especially so as a fertility goddess, no less. She gave healthy babies to all that came to her. It was months before she began trying for herself. Of course, she had no husband and she couldn't bring herself to properly ask someone to bed her that would be with her for long periods of time. So instead, she offered herself up as a reward to any that were given as sacrifice (For this reason, she only took men for sacrifice).

It wasn't long before she realised that no matter what she did, she couldn't produce offspring. Rekyht was infertile. Again, she was devastated. Now, though, instead of hiding away from infants as she could in her old lives, she was cursed to give people healthy, happy babies for what seemed like eternity.

Indeed, Rekyht was suffering, but she knew she couldn't go back to Yomi, or she'd surely be killed. Instead, she put on a happy face and suffered only in private.
