Rathalos

Monster File:

Species: Rathalos
Subspecies: Azure Rathalos
Individual character name: "Azzie"

Normal Size Statistics : (Can be smaller upon request, see notes)
Length: Up to approximately 17 meters
Wingspan: 18 meters
Weight: approx. 1.5 tons

Feral and cunning, (though capable of speech if required,) the Azure Rathalos has an enormous appetite for meat and flesh that makes it nearly perpetually hungry. It's counterpart is one of the breeds of Rathian, and when they nest it will mate for life. "Azzie" is no different, but has found no mate as of yet.

Azure Rathalos are always male and when concerning their meals if given the choice they will usually choose a female prey, but will eat almost anything given enough desperation. Azzie in particular is not above eating carrion, and will seldom go out of his way to attack wayward travelers unless close to starvation or defending himself from monster hunters after his hide for money or reputation.

Preferred environments are tropical jungles/forests and warm coastlines, but he can be found pretty much anywhere the warm thermals that he requires to fly can be found.

Abilities

Normal Rathalos are quite durable and awesome predators, and Azure Rathalos (a slightly more powerful subspecies) are no different. Tough hides that resist most attacks, an innate resistance (though not an invulnerability to) basic magics, and sharp senses help give the Rathalos species their title "King of the Skies."

Azzie is an average for his kind and far from the most powerful, but his aerial maneuverability, speed, and durability make him quite a force to be reckoned with. The only 'chink' in his armor so to speak is his endurance. While he can continue a hunt on the wing for quite some time, his heavy scales require him to land on a periodic basis, especially with a belly full of prey. So a would-be adventurer is just as likely to find him patrolling his territory on the ground as in the air. His bipedal nature gives him just as much maneuverability on the ground most land dwelling monsters, though he isn't quite as fast as one might expect due to a combination of his anatomy and thick armor.

His barbed tail is semi-flexible, and can pack a lethal blow if it hits.

Notes

"Azzie" is capable of being shrunken down for the sake of the rp's given scenario. He has the ability to swallow like a snake, and can go down to about the size of a horse if requested.

Azzie's intelligence can be from an intelligent animal (equivalent of that of a cat: capable of solving basic problems but no genious) or to being fully sentient and able to speak. I prefer the sentient intelligence end of it, but am willing to cater to my partners' tastes.

In the "monster hunter" universe, Rathalos have poison claws and the ability to spit fireballs. Unless deliberately requested, Azzie does NOT have these traits. It just makes him too powerful and not as much fun to play, unless fighting against a demigod-type sorcerer or something, and even then I would be iffy about it.

As much as I LOVE the monsters in the Monster Hunter universe, I actually have NOT played a game yet (other than a few select amounts of monster hunter tri) so if there is some particular monster/scenario that you would like to try, I'll probably be open to it, just don't expect me to be an expert on the games' respective lore :P

Other possible playable Monsters

Azzie would be the primary choice, but the following are several other possibilities for play from the monster hunter universe should they suit your fancy better.

Here they are, listed in no real order:

Please note that as with Azzie, all of these monsters can be downscaled according to preference.

Espinas

Another wyvern about the same size as a Rathalos, though less aggressive and with an even heavier set of armor and skin. Its spiny body is covered with mildly poisonous barbs, making it downright nasty if provoked.

Blessed (and cursed) with a near-impenetrable hide (even more so than Rathalos') Espinas are only barely light enough to fly, much preferring to get around on foot as they patrol their territories to help conserve energy.

Luckily for most hunters, it is almost always a passive beast, relying on its tough shell for protection as it goes about its business. It tends to sleep long hours, and nothing short of a direct hit on its snout can usually rouse it from its slumber...

This monster would also be a candidate for a sentient creature.

Fatalis:

As the Name suggests, a monstrous elder dragon who very few ever live to tell the tale about. In-game one of the most powerful monsters, and come in three varieties: Purple, Crimson, and White.

This creature is remarkably intelligent, and if not outright sentient is very close to it regardless. And with long serpentine necks, dexterous hands, and keen senses, they're very likely to be able to use their combination of brains and brawn to very good effect.

Purple/Black:

Crimson:

White:

Gigginox: wyverns with worm heads that are perfect for a slimy vore demise. Completely non-sentient, and have the ability to climb walls like a gecko. Approximately 10 meters long, are poor flyers and are almost always found in caves.

Not a candidate for sentience.

Gobul

Amphibious ambush predator that gulps down its prey whole, or at least attempts to. A bit weaker than some of the other monsters, but still fully capable of giving a would-be hunter a hard time. The size of Gobul I would play would be approximately 8 meters long including the angler (or smaller). Extremely aggressive. It will eat anything that moves, even sometimes trying to eat something bigger than itself.

It attempts to devour its prey in a giant gulp of water. It cannot chew, and if unsuccessful in gulping something down in a single swallow it will attempt to gulp the rest of it down. If it cannot completely swallow it, it spits its lucky would-be meal out.

Not a candidate for sentience.

Deviljho

A great wandering glutton whose appetite is so enormous it depletes entire ecosystems in its wake and must continue moving or die of starvation. An ideal candidate for multiple prey, and the biggest predator I am willing to play at approximately 30 meters long at the biggest. The most aggressive and probably the most likely to actively hunt down a wayward adventurer. At its full size it can gulp down two humans in a single gulp, using its shovel-like lower jaw to knock its prey off its feet. One of the dominant predators anywhere it goes, even Azzie fears this one and will immediately fly off as fast as he can, full-bellied or not, to escape this bottomless stomach.

Possible candidate for sentience in the rp.

Duramboros

Normally a peaceful plant eater, the "Duram" isn't opposed to eating carrion... or a stupid hunter who attempts to kill it. With a hide even tougher than Espinas' (it's virtually immune to physically-based harm), this lumbering giant (25 meters long and almost 8 tons) is constantly hungry, and if there isn't any plant matter around, it will go for the first thing moving and swallow it down whole, as its teeth aren't meant for shearing or ripping meat.

Immensely strong, a blow from its clubbed tail can put a dent in solid granite rock.

(Still wip, more to come soon.)

Never/Dislike I'm not opposed to either soft or hard, it would depend on which monster is being used. All of these monsters would probably do whatever is most convenient and give him the least amount of damage in the given situation.
