Rachnos

Rachnos Alamanster. Wandering sorcerer for hire. A black mage by profession, from his attire down to the shriveled lump of obsidian that passes for his soul.

He has no homeland, no family he knows of that would ever claim him for their own. He was an orphan, a basket-baby left with the Black Mage Guild. He showed a young talent for the arcane, and under their tutelage, well...he's grown up to be quite the hellion. Mind, he's not especially vicious in and of himself, it's just that suffering and destruction (especially the latter) make him happy. Nothing brings him greater joy than watching something get blown into flaming splinters or shards of icy ruin! He has the morals of a cat, looking out for himself before anyone else, and doing whatever amuses him. While he isn't oblivious to potential consequences, he does think quite highly of his personal abilities, and can get in over his head without realizing it.

It doesn't help any that he's wonderfully handsome, and can be quite charming when he wants to be. He'll even work on the side of good, if there's something in it for him. Good pay and the potential to wreak havoc are favorite. Better to have him flinging devestation out at the enemy, than in at your group, eh?

Standing around 5'10", he has medium-length hair the color of golden wheat, part of which which he keeps in a short braid on the left side. Normally his eyes are a slightly darker amber, but when he really cuts loose with his magic the sclera...the "whites" of his eyes....tend to go pitch black around those retinas, which in turn shine a bright molten yellow. He dresses in the dark and purple attire of his job, in particular never going without the signature hat. If he has to use a weapon, it's always a magic staff or dagger. He lacks the physical stamina and training to properly wield anything else.

Bio: This curse of affliction infects the target with all sorts of biological corruption and nastiness, sickening and poisoning them. Rarely kills outright, instead causing harm over time. Strength varies from the level of flu to deadly plague.

Blind: Just what it sounds like. This spell causes a curtain of perfect darkness to swallow the target's vision temporarily.

Fire: Makes things combust, or summons flames from thin air to be flung from the mage's very hands. Ranges from the wick of a candle to a ball of inferno the size of a van.

Drain: This vampiric curse sucks life energy directly from the target and uses it to heal and strengthen the caster. Can be fatal, but only if used for several minutes at full strength.

Break: A little hit or miss, but when it works, this curse can turn a living object into stone! While this doesn't in itself kill, while stone they are helpless, frozen. They do not age, and if turned back will be themselves and healthy aside from whatever parts were broken off as a statue.

Thunder: Calls anything from a static spark to a massive bolt of lightning at the mage's fingertips. Ker-zap!

Mini: Another curse, this one dealing with altering the target's size. It can be cast on someone normally sized to reduce them to a mere two or three inches...while not directly harmful, this does make them an easy target for harm until it wears off!

It goes without saying, or should, that Rachnos is always on the lookout for other, more powerful spells to add to his arsenal, or artifacts and the like that could increase his reserves of power. While not physically intimidating, he is a magical force to be reckoned with already!
