Aidan's a professional anything-you-want, wandering the depths of space in the heavily modified light freighter, the ICS Magpie. If you asked, Aidan'd probably give a job title like privateer, freelancer or mercenary. Maybe even a bounty hunter or smuggler in the right company. Something that conjures up images of dashing rogues at the edge of the known galaxy, carving out their own destiny, exploring uncharted space and getting into tense gunfights with criminal syndicates and the law alike.
There's some truth to that, Aidan's dabbled in all of the above, but dabbling's about as far as this explorer gets in anything and it's probably more accurate to describe Aidan's job as "whatever keeps the ship fueled", which pretty much means cargo hauling, selling off space junk or even odd jobs around a station when business is really slow. Space Trucker, Salvager and Handyman just don't have quite the same ring to it as Privateer, though. Of course, even when it DOES come to more adventurous business, a smuggler's more likely to be sneaking socks past some dumbass planetary governor's import duty on textiles than delivering arms shipments to revolutionaries and bounty hunting more often than not is catching someone who skipped a court date or repoing some loser's skiff when they miss a payment than hunting the galaxy's most wanted or anything like that.
Probably for the best, though. Aidan's got enough charm, wits and skill to get into trouble, but not always enough to get back out of it and that carefully cultivated image as a rugged, aloof professional only in it for the money is pretty much just that, an image. Aidan has no real direction or ambition and a lot of trouble committing to anything, it shows too with all the various modules and equipment jury-rigged onto the Magpie. Exploratory drones, a mining laser, salvaging gear, survey modules. At least it's easy to get work when you do a little bit of everything, right?
