Our indomitable royal heroine is definitely no old-fashioned damsel-in-distress, who does little more than wait to be rescued. She's very much a charming, energetic, contemporary young woman. Everyone in the Kingdom knows their beloved Princess is a sweet, kind, loving girl. They see her as role model, someone to believe in, in these dark times of war. Optimistic, caring, generous and beautiful. Charisma enough to silence even the most vocal detractors of the war effort, by mere dint of her smile.

Thanks to a massive PR campaign largely directed and driven by the Princess herself, since the time she took the throne from the Regent at the age of 16, her image is that of a combination savior and media darling, genteel noblewoman and intelligent ruler. It's a testament to Peach's cleverness and keen grasp of manipulation that there's only the faintest rumors of a darker side, whispers of her cold, possessive, and manipulative nature, the true Peach Toadstool.

Peach, as usually seen by her subjects, is an elegant, graceful young woman, with long, well-tended blonde hair that falls to the middle of her back. Her hair is her pride and joy, and often she wears it elegantly coiffed, elaborately set, with her crown delicately set atop it. A full-length dress, colored a soft, warm pink, trimmed with white lace, a large jewel set in the chest, matching the sapphires that adorn her crown. White opera gloves cover her arms, from fingertip to mid-bicep, and she usually wears at least one or two bracelets or bangles. A pair of patent leather shoes, typically in a matching white, cover her feet, as she wears a pair of stockings beneath the full skirt of her dress.

It enhances her image of gentle, peaceful warmth, the soft pinks and girlish clothes lend her a weak, almost peaceful air. In fact, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Her typical dress for travel is a bit abbreviated, for ease of movement and comfort, though it follows the same general style as her normal clothes. Her traveling skirts fall only to her knee, and are slit up the sides for mobility. A leather corset, a deep rose color, and a comfortable top, with slender straps of a lighter pink cover her chest. She typically also wears white opera gloves, their upper edges embroidered in gold, and a matching pair of boots, complete with white stockings fashioned in the same way her gloves are. To complete her ensemble, her gold crown rests firmly atop her head, and a pink parasol is carried in one hand, typically closed and leaned against a shoulder.

The War of the Kingdoms

For ages, the Mushroom Kingdom had sat amidst it's enemies. The volcanic mountains of the Koopa Wastes to the east, the jungles of Shy to the west, and the ghost ruins of the lost, fallen kingdom that played home to the enigmatic Boos to the south, the peaceful kingdom, long ago, had driven back it's foes, and settled it's borders. Now, though, it was suffering from years of peace and inaction. It had begun to steadily lose ground, as the Koopa Clans, who had marshaled their old allies, began to wage a steady war against their ancient enemies, under the direction of Kamek the Ancient. He instigated the war because he'd discovered a Star Child, Bowser, who was the sign he needed to unite the warring clans.

The Kingdom, it's Toad Guard in disarray from the war, struggled to hold on. Things looked grim, until a prophesied Star Child of their own was discovered, one Peach Toadstool. A precocious child, she proved the rallying point the weakened kingdom needed. Within weeks of her discovery, a massive recruiting campaign focused on the young girl was started, driving military recruitment rates through the roof as everyone raced to do their part for the beautiful young girl.

Peach grew up, in those war-ridden years, and began to ask for tutors in strategy, war, history, magic and lore, insisting she become the best princess she could be. The teenaged Peach proved intelligent, and an incredibly apt pupil, picking up just about anything she was taught. Her influence began to grow, and as she neared adulthood, a flicker of a smile or a wink would send Toads scurrying to carry out her will.

But, inside she grew colder, more focused. She wanted power. Wanted to end this war, to take control of the lands beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, annex and subjugate them. By the time she was 18, and crowned Princess, she began to develop her forces, drilling the Toad Guard endlessly, turning a weak border patrol into a military powerhouse, adding more and more members to it's ranks. A pact with the Yoshi Tribes lent her cavalry, and the addition of the other Star Children, Mario and Luigi, gave her the generals she needed to command her forces.

Slowly but surely, over the next year, she began to turn back the Koopa Clans and their allies, expanding into the deadly wastes, spreading her borders. Even the Shy Guys, in their jungle stronghold, found it nearly impossible to stop her, torn by dissention between their tribes.

Peach's shadow began to loom over the world, beloved by her citizens, feared by her enemies...

The Star Child Prophecy

Peach is one of the five Star Children, the Child of Love. To her subjects, this means she embodies love, generosity, and kindness, always gentle and warm. That, of course, is what she wants them to think, as a populace that thinks they're guided in a terrible war by a gentle hand is far more likely to continue to serve quietly, complacently.

In truth, Peach embodies Love, but has turned this talent to it's own ends. She is endlessly persuasive, her mere presence is almost intoxicating, the words that come from her mouth seeming reasonable and so very easy to follow. Peach demands attention, be it from servants, lovers, prisoners or otherwise, she -has- to be the center of attention. Obsession is a common result of proximity to her, and she's had more than one helpless stalker removed, either to the deep dungeon of her castle, or sent into the Toad Guard, and out to the front lines.

Deceit comes as naturally to the Princess as breathing, and thanks to almost supernatural talents of manipulation and her own beauty, she is rarely, if ever, caught.

A devotee of martial arts, Peach is well-versed in hand to hand combat, and is, in fact, a rather deadly adversary. Hands, feet, hips, anything she's got can be used as a weapon. When able to, she also carries a weighted parasol, heavy as a mace it's size, which she's all to happy to lay into enemies with.

Magic as well lies in her repertoire. Those she can't win over with sweet words are won with a touch and a spell, laying enchantments on them so thickly they'd do anything for her. Mario and Luigi were both initially commanded this way, though they now follow her willingly, each for their own reasons...

There are five prophesied Star Children, each with a guiding virtue. There is nothing written in the prophecy about whether each will be a hero, or a villain. But, every Child has it's role to play, it's choices to make. And, each has powers, granted by it's prophesied nature, to bring the destiny to a close.
