Oriel

An entry in the Grimoire.

Case File I-1 (Doctor Oriel Vance):

(Original portrait attached.)

Subject History: Born in the shadow of the Alsace Mountains, in the very heart of Lusur's famed Boolhurean Empire. The year of her birth was the same year that the Great War broke out, and thousands died on either side in the first months of the conflict. She, sheltered in the capital of the Empire, was sheltered from the war, at least until the latter years of her life.

The early years went by quickly, with her attending school and proving to be a very bright girl. She made her way through normal courses, gradually moving into higher placement avenues of study, advancing at an impressive rate. By the time she'd graduated from the Academy of Sciences, ready to begin her study in medicine, the War had grown more deadly and brutal, and violence had begun to stray closer, terrorist strikes occasionally occurring within the capital's limits themselves.

Her transition from the top of the class in her Medical academy to doctor was a happy day, for her and her family. They, unfortunately, weren't to enjoy it long. Transferred upon graduation to the Center for Disease Research and Prevention, a government agency dedicated to trying to combat the rising waves of magical, biological and chemical warfare that the enemy had been resorting to in increasingly desperate attacks.

She was there only a week when the unthinkable happened, and a massive magical strike occurred over the entirety of Lusur, blanketing the whole continent. Untold thousands died, some survived by fleeing above the deadly magical clouds, or beneath the surface. Oriel stayed behind, true to her vows to heal and help, trying to find ways to combat the deadly, and often mutagenic effects of the magical poisons raining from above.

Instead, she fell victim to their effects, and perished shortly thereafter.

Something with her appearance, calling herself Oriel Vance, survived after. But she wasn't the same.

Known Statistics and Data:

Threat Potential: High She seems to be resistant to any toxins or poisons used against her, her body is resilient, and her abilities are incredibly lethal. Viable assault options limited to ambushes of overwhelming force, as the danger she poses grows with every death or injury.

Identity: Considers self to be Oriel Vance, and evinces memories of her former life, but lacks morals and values of the former self.

Hair Color: Purple, the color it was dyed at the time of her death. She doesn't appear to grow hair any longer.

Eye Color:Yellow/Gold. Original color, according to birth records, was brown. Unknown if visual acuity is affected as a result of the changes.

Appearance: Her garb was, once, likely what she died in. A set of torn scrubs, blood stained from where her fatal reaction to whatever magical toxin she was exposed to caused her death. Time has worn her garments down, and she's gathered 'trophies' from her victims and opponents. She wears shaped bone armor, which apparently connects to her own endoskeletal structure, and provides her basic protection. Most notable are the curved, ivory 'plates' that cover her shoulders and upper arms, the jaggedly serrated 'blades' that jut from her elbows and knees, and the half-mask that she's created, which covers her cheeks and forehead.

Her clothes are the tattered remains of her garments, faded and stained. The top is torn at the waist, baring her trim midriff, exhibiting some of her reported exotic piercings. It's sleeves have been removed, and in their place, she wears long leather gloves, fingerless, with ragged holes torn for the bones that jut from her flesh. Around her hips, she wears a skirt, which appears to be lightly-colored, blood-stained leather, and has a rough element that seems to indicate it's handmade by the subject herself. Oddly, her legs are covered in lacy stockings, with numerous holes and tears, and she wears no shoes at all, going barefoot.

She is possessed of a large number of piercings and adornments. Numerous tribal tattoos appear to mar her skin, as well as ear, nose, eyebrow and lip piercings, all in shockingly good condition for their likely age. She wears a number of apparent religious symbols, but may have taken them as trophies from her victims.

Health: Subject, from all observation given, appears not to require food, or air to continue life. She has, in multiple instances, consumed others she's found, usually after brutal slaughter. Her body, given other bodies to use for 'resources', seems to be able to repair itself, and remains in the same condition, color, and physical shape as it was when she died.

Age: 729 years old, by best estimate. Records indicate she was born 28 years before the Catastrophe incident, and best count puts that incident 701 years in the past.

Disposition Uncaring, cold, and indifferent to the sufferings of others. She takes delight in using her magically enhanced body, and the intimate knowledge of anatomy and biology she possesses to wreak incredible amounts of damage before killing any victims she comes across. Delights, particularly, in mass slaughter. Has been spoken to peaceably on two separate occasions, seems to be aware of herself, her history, and shows no remorse for her acts.

Observed and Postulated Abilities:

Blood Control (Reference- 'Hematomancy'): Though the origination of the strange talent she has such talent in is impossible to determine, the extent of her abilities within the field have been observed, oftentimes at great risk. Capable of controlling, directing, and shaping blood, her own or others, as well as being able to alter the structure of the liquid, hardening it into weapon-shapes. Typically used in the form of a lash, although daggers, swords, and spears are also common in her repertoire. Her own blood is tainted by her exposure, and filled with poisons, toxins and diseases that she's encountered during her centuries long life beneath the deadly clouds hanging over Lusur. She is entirely capable of draining her enemies of blood through the slightest scratch, and uses the blood of others to supplement her own arsenal. She seems limited in scope of use, based on her readily available supply, but has been seen carrying tanks and containers of blood with her before.

Bone Control (Reference-'Osteomancy'): Like her ability to control blood, the origin of her talent in controlling the growth, shape, and movement of bone is similarly impossible to determine. She is able to alter and harden her own bones, as well as growing new skeletal structures and removing them. Most often used in the shape of darts, blades, or claws, she's also partial to augmenting her body, and using it as armor. Access to others bones allows more dramatic alterations and constructions, and she seems limited in her own scope of production, growing tired upon too much generation of the matter.

Body Alteration (Reference-'Forced Mutation'): Thanks to the subject's retention of her former life's knowledge and skills, and the strange powers her abilities allow her to control, she has been able to alter her own physiology, making herself more efficient. Given her apparent lack of the typical signs of life (respiration, heartbeat, need for food/water), she may have disposed of unneeded organs/functions. Observation has proven she's capable of dislocating her jaw, and splitting her ribcage along the center. Such a strange adaptation is modeled on the snake, it seems, allowing her to eat a victim, alive or dead, whole, and utilize all of their 'components', to improve or fuel herself.

Whether she's capable of forcing these alterations in others remains to be seen.
