Oceana has been called by many names throughout her four hundred years of life. Daughter of the seas, child of the currents, trickster of the trade routes... Yes, it's true; Oceana is well known for her mischievous streak. The playful mermaid has been spotted several times picking up ships and turning them around in the middle of the night, or grabbing fishing vessels by their nets and dragging them several knots further out to sea. It's easy for her to play such childish pranks, considering she's grown to the whopping size of 160 feet long.

Most times though, Oceana doesn't feel like playing practical jokes on sailors. She is actually extremely curious about those who walk on dry land, and finds them interesting enough to try and get to know, in spite of the difficulties her size tends to cause when developing a relationship. But that doesn't stop her from looking for friends or lovers, and she's always keeping watch for sinking ships to see if she can save anyone.

When she does find people who aren't afraid of her she'll often try to spend time with them, either by beaching herself or inviting them into the water with her, where she'd more comfortable. Naturally most people can't handle water as well as she does air, so she tends to have to help them out. There's a couple ways she can keep her friends supplied with oxygen, with the traditional 'kiss method' being the quickest and easiest, if the least efficient. It's hard to air to a being with lungs smaller than her mouth, after all. Other than that, Oceana can swallow her little companions and keep them in her stomach so they can breathe and talk with her. Of course, she could always unbirth them and feed them oxygen through an umbilical cord, but that's rarely necessary or chosen.

Otherwise, Oceana enjoys doing normal beach activities with people. She loves surfing and greatly enjoys water games like Marco Polo and Sharks and Minnows. She likes trying to play volleyball, and building sandcastles, not to mention burying people in the sand. Really she just loves spending time with people.

So if you see a blue mossy island rise out of the water next time you're at the beach only to realize it has eyes and it's staring at you, why not say hello?
