Obscura

"Come on, Just let me have a nibble! Please?"

Obscura. It's a name that conjures up certain images. Darkness, mystery, things hidden and unspoken. It's a good name for a creature of the night, isn't it? Born Gloria Rogers, she prefers the name she picked out for herself, thank you. She always was a goth.

And guess what? She really is a creature of the night! See, Gloria....that is, Obscura....hung around a particular club that catered to people of her chosen aesthetic. Pale skin, dark clothes and makeup everywhere. Lots of young adults who hadn't outgrown their goth phase, just like her. Then it turned out that some of the people hanging out there weren't faking it, or playing a role. No one batted an eye when the other girl fastened her mouth on Obscura's throat during some playful making out in a booth. That sort of thing happened all the time.

Imagine her surprise and excitement when she felt the sting of genuine fangs and her life being sucked out, hot and flowing. It was really happening! And yes, the vampire turned her. She awoke the following night as a thing undead, with her own unnatural thirst to quench.

The thiing is, see.....the thing is that, yes, vampires tend to be rich and immensely powerful. Elder vampires. Vampires who have been around for decades or centuries growing and accumulating all of that! Not newly fledged vampires fresh out of the metaphorical coffin. Sure, she's immune to disease and her body heals from physical harm a treat, and she doesn't age any more. However, her only sustenance is blood; regular food and drink carries no nutrition or flavor in comparison to vitae. She can't shapeshift, she can't bend steel with her bare hands, she can't move at superspeed. Sunlight burns her, she has a severe silver allergy, older vampires can sometimes command her, and holy magics are downright nasty!.

To put it simply, unlife sucks. Well, it isn't all bad, but it sure isn't the awesome, romantic, power trip she expected it to be. Poor little 5'8" baby vamp!
