History

Nyxathid is an artificial god, created by the False Goddess Karona in a fusion of two malevolent beings of tremendous power. However, perhaps this personification of purest evil was made too well. Though Karona controlled it for a time, Nyxathid's power grew exponentially, eventually becoming strong enough to sever the spell that bound him to Karona and allowing him to escape his former master. Now free to do as he pleased, Nyxathid headed out into the cosmos, moving from world to world as he spread despair and consumed all who opposed him, growing even more powerful as he did. Eventually his power and appetite grew to a point where he could no longer sate himself with the worlds he ravaged, so he turned his hunger towards gods. He attacked, defeated, and consumed them one by one, seeming to be unstoppable. At some point he invaded a holy plane known as the Astral Plane of the Highly Heavens, destroying it with his horrible power. He then met the first real resistence he had encountered on his rampage, the goddess of light Amaterasu_. They fought, and though the goddess' powers were great, they were not enough to overcome Nyxathid, who layed a curse on her which trapped her in the body of a white wolf.

The goddess did not give up, however. She sought out Nyxathid and fought the dark god again, this time with a fellow god at her side. After an intense battle, in which Amaterasu had to give up her immortality to power the final blow, the dark one's body crumbled away, splitting apart into countless evil fragments that scattered across reality. Amaterasu hunted these fragments, intent on purging reality of Nyxathid's wicked essence, and finally destroyed them all, killing the dark god. For the time being, anyway.

Now finding himself as a disembodied spirit, Nyxathid sought to hide from Amaterasu while he sought a way to ressurect himself back to the physical plane. Using the little power he had left, he opened a rift along the edge of reality, intending to hide outside of creation itself. This proved to be the biggest mistake he ever made. He did not find an empty void as he had expected, but something utterly beyond description. A seething, infinite sea of primal chaos, ringing with a dissonant symphony of eldritch music that was the most horrible thing the god had ever heard. The boundless, indescribable forms of primal creatures that even gods shuddered to think about swayed slowly through the chaos, oblivious to all around them. Then, to Nyxathid's horror, one of the incomprehensible things noticed him. It turned slowly towards the wicked one, it's infinite, eyeless gaze piercing his very soul. The dark lord fled screaming in maddening, primal terror through the rift in reality he had created, deciding that the risk of being discovered by Amaterasu was infinitely preferrable to being in that horrible void of inconceivable monstrosities even one second longer. He retreated to the safety of the reality he knew, plotting a way to get his physical form back and resume his rampage across the cosmos...

In time, he was found and approached by the being known as Arokleth. Sensing the aura of those...horrible things from beyond, he attacked her immediately in a blind terror, but she vanished before he could strike her. As her form faded away, her voice remained, saying two simple words before it vanished as well.

"I'll help..."

Powers

Nyxathid's physical form is not sustained by physical nutrition. The dark god actually feeds on the suffering of others, as well as their essence once he has filled them with despair, before destroying anything that remains of a world he has ravaged. His monstrous physical body is horrible to behold, large enough to dwarf mountain ranges and far too sinister to be mistaken for any normal form of life in the universe. Nyxathid can control his size at will, and the limits of how large he can make himself are unknown.
