A Naiad, or water nymph, is the blessed child of Gaia who watches over the untamed waterways and protects them from defilement. They are some of the most beautiful of all fey kind and among the more noble, though they are certainly playful too. Like other fey they tend to think highly of themselves and while friendly, they may act a little condescending at times.

While Naiads spend most of their time in bodies of water, they are not completely unfamiliar with the constantly changing world above the waves. A few of the more bold even venture deep into cities, mingling with unsuspecting humans while in disguise. Spas, hot springs, and massage or beauty parlors are some of their favorite spots.

Despite what mythology might indicate, Water Nymphs aren't normally malicious. They don't lure people into their waters to be drowned or murdered. They are shy creatures when in their usual environment, prefering to hide from sight or change their appearence with illusion magic. If they are in fact found in their true form, they are more likely to strike up a conversation and sing or show off their beauty than murder someone. Their musical voices, like Sirens, can control a person but it is not used unless they are frustrated, angered, or frightened.

Nymphs in their true form wear elaborate and beautiful dresses, no two exactly alike. Blues, whites, and light green are the normal colors seen but silver and gold ar ealso not uncommon. Jewelry of all kinds complement their outfits and will often stick to a certain theme such as raindrops or snowflakes. Crinoline, ruffles, petticoats, ribbons, or lace are sometimes incorporated into them in any combination. Thigh high silk stockings commonly are included along with satin slippers much like those worn by ballet dancers.
