The citystate of Ishgard could always be argued to have been a city cold in its heart, with the Seventh Umbral Calamity simply making Coerthas reflect it. At the very least those who knew and socialized with the noble houses could feel that kind of sentiment, the ever constant war against the dragons leading to both high suspicions of anything considered remotely traitorous and powerplays of one house backstabbing another.

And if it could get bad among the High Houses of Ishgard, those houses at the bottom of the nobility totem pole, whether from being completely new or a declining bloodline, would be willing to sell out souls in exchange for getting one up past each other. This was the environment Sylvianne would grow up in as part of the minor house of Mayneui - as faithfully as she took in all the teachings of noblesse oblige and what a noble ought to do, she would experience all the ways Ishgardian high society could discriminate against someone who made a near fatal trespass against it.

In her case, it was the fact that her mother fancied a Duskwood Elezen from Gridania, Sylvianne's heritage being quite apparent the day she was born out of wedlock. The man would try to do his best to stay and help raise Sylvianne, even making plans to properly marry - but would ultimately die an untimely death on a patrol in Western Coerthas that was recorded to by dragons, a fact that has always bugged Sylvianne every time she got a chance to dig a bit deeper into what happened that day and the cover up of details like what exactly her father's wounds were...

Sylvianne would start a slow revival of her house's standing in her adolescent years, revealing an immense gift for thaumaturgy and the elemental aspect of fire - a boon both for common tasks needing a simple light, and for combat against all sorts of foes whether draconic or otherwise. Yet even as she pushed to be the best kind of noblewoman she could be, Ishgard society kept simply saying it wasn't enough, and even after managing to claim glory in a pitched battle just a year after ice and cold invaded Ishgard, all the Elezen would get is just more sneers about how she clearly could be better if it wasn't for her heritage.

So, Sylvianne took a step she didn't think she would ever take - as funds for her house were still hard to come by, she took the chance to get away from it all and left for the rest of Eorzea proper - with her family's affairs having a semblance of order, at the very least she could work towards applying her talents for all sorts of jobs that could be in high demand for a fiery mage - and perhaps demonstrate to people who would be more grateful what a proper noble can do.

Though with her time as an adventurer/mercenary/mage for hire in Eorzea so far, she's more gained the extensive vocabulary of curse words than the appreciation of others...
