Nanette is a trope girl in
Manga_Shop_Yukari She exemplifies the Trope 'Ill girl'.
The ill girl is almost inevitably a cute girl (though lately, there are more and more equally cute males taking up the role), and whatever Soap Opera Disease she might have - everything from anemia to congenital disease or organ failure, if the writers are smart enough not to actually name it - it will never disfigure or impair her cuteness. It will, however, often prompt an "older brother" or "older sister" figure into shady business to help pay the medical bills, or prompt them to rush into some dangerous/brave deed while she cheers them on.
The Ill Girl occupies an odd spot in the bishoujo fandom; in traditional PC games, there was a very good chance of her actually dying. Post-death, she becomes the Dead Little Sister. On the other hand, if enough money (or in one case, orbs of light) can be made for "the operation" or "the treatment" (just as vague as whatever her illness is) it is possible for the whole problem to just go away.

Thats Nanette in a nutshell...trying to live life normally, despite having so much trouble through life. Since birth, she's been plagued with an anemia disorder known as 'Thalassemia'. The disorder itself basically means her body is unable to fully mature her red blood cells...This causes her body to be unable to absorb nearly as much oxygen as necessary. and Luckily, its not a life-threatening case, it is severe enough to impact her life.
Nanette is forced to go in to hospitals every month to have her red cell count checked, and as times she even needs transfusions of red blood cells to ensure she doesn't die of oxygen starvation, though that rarely, if ever, happens. This doesn't mean she's perfectly normal though...she isn't allowed to do heavy cardio workouts or lift anything heavier then fifty pounds. If she overexerts herself, she will faint. Not might, will. Sharp frights will cause her to faint, along with any sort of cuts or nosebleeds, due to the already thin blood supply she has. She is easily winded by even the most mundane of tasks, and often times needs to be sitting down...and any serious cut or respiratory illness forces her to the hospital. The other mundane symptoms are slow hair growth and a general pale, almost sickly look.
Her parents had tried to shelter her from everything, fearing for her life and being overprotective, but as soon as she turned sixteen, she did everything in her power to get away from them and succeeded. The courts allowed her to emancipate from her household and they even gave her a work pass to work while she attended school...though this was the beginning of her constant doctor visits, as the prefecture did want to keep an eye on her health.
Nevertheless, despite her illness, she is doing very well. Granted, sometimes she's babied a bit and forced to sit or even lay down by people, but otherwise she tends to live a normal life...or as normal life as possible.
Things you will notice about Nanette
* She won't ever take any sharp objects from someone if they are handing them to her, like knives or pins, etc etc...she just feels like she's taking a risk doing such things.
*She always has a hat on of some sort....her pale skin tends to cause her to easily become sunburnt.
*She wears bright colors, often white, to mask the fact that her skin is pale.
*Despite the risks, Nanette wants to become a chef someday.
