A messenger of the Dragon Palace, whose job is to observe the daily mood of the atmosphere. She somewhat questions why humans and youkai fight/duel as a part of their daily life. During the events of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody she finds out that a strong earthquake is going to occur in Gensokyo, so she decides to warn the residents. Afterwards, Yukari tells her that the culprit is hiding in the Hakurei Shrine. She then goes back to the shrine and finds Tenshi, who has just inserted a keystone to prevent the earthquake. Iku questions this and thinks of Tenshi as having been "spoiled a bit too much", so she decides to punish her. Iku herself is level-headed, sensible and generally "the only sane man" in certain situations. She's always laid-back and has no interest in others' behavior, her cool headed and lax demeanor can have some mistake her for being "lazy" and while that is partly true, Iku herself doesn't always mind doing work. After all she has a duty to attend to every now and then. Iku almost never insists on her own opinion, and mostly watches what others do but, very rarely will the oarfish speak out allowing others to hear what's really on her mind. However, this only seems to occur when either something is really bothering her or it is imperative that others hear her opinion for the well being of either herself or other people.
Iku's initial abilities revolve around the reading of the atmosphere, though this doesn't entirely mean the air and weather on high. In truth, Iku can read the mood of a place, and adapt to it right away. True to her passive and rather neutral standing nature, Iku doesn't try to break the mood unless there's a very urgent reason. Flexibility is stronger than stiffness. When necessary, she vanishes completely and parries any attacks. Alongside this is Iku's secondary ability of manipulating and discharging electricity and lightning.
