Miku_Beetle

This species of insect comes from a future where the entire world is covered in city. The entire world has gone under a drastic change, causing the one big city it holds to be nicknamed "Vocaltropolis". Since Vocaloids are everywhere in this city, a species of insect has evolved to blend in and not be spotted. Animals and plants have done similar things.

These beetles are man-sized, and use their appearance to blend in with their surroundings. They evolved from the Japanese Beetle, and several subspecies exist due to the diversity of vocaloids that exist in Vocaltropolis. The most common species has evolved to mimic Hatsune Miku. These beetles are scavengers and are constantly seen feeding on things people have thrown in trash cans.

The Miku Beetle has front legs similar to the front legs of a male Harlequin Beetle, and each front leg is patterned in such a way to resemble Miku's arms. The back legs are similar to those of a grasshopper, and are patterned to look like Miku's legs. The same goes for the rest of its body, making it look like Hatsune Miku when one looks at its back. Its antennae are akin to those of a Wallace's longhorn beetle. It has a wingspan of 10 feet, and it sometimes uses tools besides its own claws to tear open trash bags left out on the street. The males of this species have shorter antennae. They are normally docile during both breeding season and non-breeding season, but when a rival male appears to another male during mating season, the two bugs will fight to the death over the female. These beetles rub their back legs together to attract females, and whenever they rub them together, the sound produced sometimes sounds like a vocaloid song.

The Miku Beetle has four notable subspecies, with nicknames such as "Dwarf", "Top-Heavy", "Elongated", and "Nocturnal". These subspecies resemble Hachune Miku, Mikudayo, Shiteyanyo, and Hagane Miku respectively when their backs are observed.

The Dwarf subspecies is smaller than the Miku Beetle in terms of size, coming only to knee-height when compared to a human. Aside from the head, which has strikingly different markings than a normal Miku Beetle, it behaves and feeds like a normal Miku Beetle. It has a wingspan of only 5 feet.

The Top-Heavy subspecies is about the same size as a normal Miku Beetle, but it has a wingcase that is astonishingly large, but dissections have revealed a special organ inside this subspecies's body that helps it maintain balance. It has a wingspan of 40 feet, much larger than any living Miku Beetle on the planet. When inside the wingcase, the wings are curled up to conserve weight distribution.

The Elongated subspecies is flightless and has vestigial wings, but its six legs are highly evolved, and are mostly seen as looking like two legs. Aside from its incapability of flight, it can reach speeds of up to 205 miles per hour when running in order to compensate for this. These beetles are like smarter versions of vultures, as they gather in large pack when raiding graveyards for corpses they can feed on.

Members of the Nocturnal subspecies are active hunters and as the name implies, only come out at night. They have a wingspan of 15 feet and are largely black in color, except for their antennae, which are a pale teal in color. When food is scarse, members of this subspecies have been known to raid fridges and homes for food, but never eating the humans or pets contained within.

These creatures are abundant in the Nexus, and since most of them are scavengers, they may or may not accidentally eat a micro. However, the Nocturnal subspecies will actively hunt micros, and have been nicknames "Microsbane Beetles".
