Meraxin is a true terror of the deep.

Be afraid of her! .... what's that look for?

Well fine. She's not really that terrifying. But she is an insanely rare deep sea creature! A scientist of sorts captured her and brought her up for study. This amused her originally, but then he brought up another sea creature in the same tank. The problem was the other creature happened to be her natural predator.

This the scientist learned AFTER coming to find a distinct lack of Meraxin and a bulging gut.... One hurried surgery and the terror of the deep was saved, but not without damages. Mostly, a distinct lack of faith in these studies.... She left him, but couldn't survive long out of water.

Thus, an agreement was reached. A public "fountain" was built with a very deep bottom half, housing a deep creature who's species is named a "Meraxin" (which she uses as her name). It offers shelter, and even occasionally food when people admire the fountain.

After... certain events happened that Meraxin doesn't like talking about (mostly involving herself being eaten), she has "upgraded" her fountain a bit. It now has a few magic dampeners so mages quit fucking with her all the damn time (COUGHPokerCOUGH).
