'Hello the town! Anyone home?'
Meet Maria Valin. A pretty face in a not so pretty place, she's a wastelander, born and raised. She's grown up in the dust and the rads and she's still alive, kicking, and pretty good looking, too. Mind, tis even odds that she's not entirely human anymore, but with a face like that who cares?
Maria, though, isn't your typical wanderer. She's hooked up with a less hostile mercenary group, something akin to Riley's Rangers, and she's even now working to map the wastes. She's wandered further and wider than most wastelanders alive, even through the ruins of downtown DC, occasionally working with the Rangers or others if a like mind, fighting for her life on more than one occasion. Still, she's still alive, so it's all good.
And, well, there's REASONS she's alive. For one, she's got Resources. Her gun is practically one of a kind, dual-purpose assault rifle and shotgun. She's got a pretty nice HK pistol, with good ammo, and she's got better ammo for the shotgun, simply because a good girl scout is always prepared. That, and a good set of armor. Her pants aren't as well-armored as her vest, but they do the job nicely, and she's got a helmet she never wears, too. Most often, she's dressed as seen, but wearing her vest, with her gun either in her hands or slung over her shoulder.
In addition, well, she's one of the exceedingly few people with access to more than just a simple radio transmission. Her team can actually communicate across the wastes pretty damned well, thanks to some salvaged tech that they managed to get working(no easy feat).
Most often, Maria wanders alone. She's the group's scout, sneaky and fast, and frankly she doesn't want to risk hurting anyone or getting shot because someone's had the wrong idea. But that takes some explaining.
She's a mutant. She's always BEEN a mutant, since she was born. Fortunately, her mutation seems to be benign! It can even be used to help people, it seems, if she concentrates. However, most often it's used on an unwary enemy who gets too close. You see, with some work she can drain the vital energies of a person through a touch. That's one reason for the fingers missing from her gloves. A long enough, hard enough drain can kill, but she's certainly not stopping unless her victim is knocked out, simply for her own safety. Still, if someone saw her doing this, well, they MIGHT be understandably upset.
As a result of this mutation, it seems her body has adapted in interesting ways. Namely, she's FAST. She's a lot faster than anyone would expect of a human, and with her little ability she can heal a lot faster too. Her reflexes are top-notch, if not superhuman to a degree, and she's a pretty damned good shot with her weapons. Still, given the chance she prefers to let her well-worn boots take her away, perhaps while dropping a trap or two for her pursuers to stumble over...
Long story short? Wandering cartographer, well-armed and dangerous, though ultimately pretty nice and friendly!
