Mamono (魔物), the monstrous, demonic kind - or more specifically, the cute, sexy kind you find with a musume (娘) at the end... Monster girls, basically. ...Possibly monster boys, or other genders entirely, too. You know them from a number of hentai games and art series, and other kinds of smutty works western or Japanese alike. Many of the popular worlds they live in have it that they're out to hunt poor humans for food, mates, or even slaves, and some even suggest they capture others to make more of their kind.
...That last bit is what this alt is all about, even if it also has a monster-person society angle to it. A world not entirely unfamiliar to those who know of the Monster Girl Encyclopedia setting, but... well. This alt's writer has her own biases which would take it in a different direction~
ALSO. This alt can be played pred or prey (also seen as dom or sub). If you want to play a longer-term or sequential scenes, that might be a good idea for prey. This is to help sort of encourage people to use their monstergirls in a more openly transformative way, or to help draft a setting for it. I can freely play some poor innocent human girl of my or your choice for you to eat/corrupt/etc...
...as well as me playing some monstergirl that corrupts you. It's just. As a player I'm more often submissive, so there's a bit of give-or-take! And 'sequential scenes' means like 'monster girl corrupts your character, your newly-corrupted character attacks mine' or similar, which can be fun too.
--=The So-Called Plague=--
Despite the implication of a virus, in many senses to call this phenomenon the Mamono Virus is both incorrect, and often anachronistic in many cases. However it's a good analogy for what's really happening: Like a virus, the monsterism spreads from 'pure' beings outwards, but in truth it is often more of a spiritual force than an infectious disease, or maybe just a driving urge for those with transformative powers. But amidst the infinite planes of the Realm of Bells, only some of the worlds are like this.
This is not a world where monsterkin coexist in all cases with humanity and less monstrous races. This is not a world where they're just naturally present and have their own populations, either. This is a world where they are a force, possibly even nameless and dread, or with an all too real leader, that sweeps the world in order to make more of their kind. Worlds under siege, which to scholars familiar with the Realm of Bells gives... ominous implications.
In all cases, monsterkin have means, often magical, lewd, vorish, or all three, to convert 'pure races' into their kind. And often in these worlds, they're somehow unnatural, maybe even demonic, and it goes to explain many of the deep oddities of monsterkin anatomy as caused by supernatural existences. So they hunt, not merely for mates or food, but for future peers - and often all three are desired, with different candidates being available to them amidst the pure races.
Across these dimensions, entire tribes of monsters - sometimes united under a lord or by some poorly-understood hive consciousness, other times disparate and even warring - regularly raid or even war against the pure races to continue to breed, proliferate, and have sex. ...Lust and base desires seem to be central to these beings for some reason, and even without reproductive motives, they'll gladly have sex with almost anyone that strikes their fancy.
--=Types of Plague=--
There are a number of kinds of Mamono Virus scenario, depending on the world and, seemingly, what best fits its 'milieu'. This is a good excuse on an OOC level to tailor your monstergirl(/boy) experience to fit settings and preferences!
The most common is the Demonic Invasion variety, where the infection is directly and completely spiritual in nature. Whether through some primordial act, meddling of gods or things more horrible, or just the anointing of one (un?)lucky person with monster essence, a spiritual force comes into being and ascends to become a Monster Lord, who rules a world of monsterkin. They actively lead their armies, or some of their armies, to spread the spiritual corruption across the mortal world, in a state of perpetual sexual warfare.
Still, a spiritual plague might not have any set master. Maybe it's... arguably just a natural phenomenon, where monsterkin sometimes take mortals for their own, to be made their own, and that's just how it's always been in that world. Always a risk that you'll be caught, eaten, molested... or made something no longer human with dark desires...
However, an alternate concept might be, especially in modern or futuristic worlds, a /literal/ Mamono Virus, capable of infiltrating hosts through various kinds of specialized contact (It'd be boring to just get sick then turn, you know~) and converting them into these strange existences that way. They might be ruled by some alien intelligence, united by a hivemind through their horrifying nature like some kind of monstrous zombie plague, or something stranger still.
--=Monsters=--
When in doubt, the Kenkou Cross Monstergirl Encyclopedia I can shamelessly crib, but there are important differences...
1) The 'metaphysics' are different. Most monsters seek to transform and then feed, and rather than needing masculine human energy via cum etc etc, they instead are naturally hedonistic and might get something from sex, but rather need human souls of /either sex/ to turn into more of their kind.
2) Depending on the 'rules', there might be monsterboys too, and monsterherms, not just monster/girls/. Likewise, they may convert humans to the appropriate sex of monsterkin, or they might convert them all to one sex, depending on whether the rules have a monogender monster race or not. For what it's worth, the player loves male to female genderbending >.>
3) Vore exists. Now, you might say that vore is a common monstergirl media thing, and I'd agree, but. For the purposes of outright stealing MGE content, it's important to know that MGE is more femdom-oriented than vore (like MGQ is). Still, these things will eat you, unbirth you to turn you into their child, etc.
3a) However, vore is not mandatory! Sex is fine too. I like sex. n-n*
4) On the note of the femdom... even in a world with all monstergirls (or even all monstergirls/herms), chances are decently good the player will want some lesbianism, or herm-on-girl/herm-on-herm. She can still do straight stuff, but it won't be /mandatory heterosexuality/ either. They simply aren't forced to operate that way.
Most species are available, if not all, but the player prefers Lamia-family, Alraune-family, or things with tentacles a lot. And usually dis-prefers more brutish types like orcs and goblins. Also feel free to suggest monstergirls from other sources to adapt - that I settled on Encyclopedia to steal from doesn't mean I'll object to stealing from Quest instead!
--=Glossary=--
Breeding: Monsterkin taking Pure Race members for reproductive purposes. Usually includes some aspect of soul extraction or the like to create a proper monsterkin child from the union. However, sexuality is often hard-coded into most monsterkin anyway, so it can be hard to tell any outer signs of this happening rather than just recreational sex, or sex as a form of corruption. However, given the lesser or dilute nature of the natural soul, most true-bred monsterkin are weaker than their converted peers.
Corruption: Both the process of, and 'material' of, monstrous taint. Monster-taint indeed is another word for this, as well. For slower-onset Mamono Plagues, this can be things like the slow infusion of monstrous energy, or the effects of a literal virus. However, it can also refer to the state of being turned in a faster-acting case.
Mamono Plague: A grab-bag term to refer to anything this alt might deal with, OOCly speaking. All Mamono Plagues are characterized by some force, whether organic or supernatural, whether its own existence or part of just all monsterkin, that converts Pure Races into Monsterkin. The kinds are explained in a prior section.
Monster: A general term and catch-all for anything pertaining to the unnatural, tainted creatures. Despite the use of the word 'unnatural', the only thing that truly marks these beings as not of nature is that they exist in a partially magical state, above the cycles of evolution - and as such they obey laws that trickle in from spiritual realms and forces. A monster is any creature then that follows those rules, even if usually the human-bonded ones are called monsterkin or monstergirls/boys. Sometimes, in worlds where other monstrous creatures exist, the more exotic-sounding Mamono is used to distinguish the two.
Monster Seed: Not a literal seed, nor even a metaphorical seed planted by a monster... but a state of being in a member of a Pure Race. While this might not apply in certain kinds of Mamono Plague, a Monster Seed is usually how the monsterkin distinguish between potential converts and food or mate material. Monster Seeds are, actually, usually some biological or psychological status, often related to either submissiveness, trauma, or weak willpower (to make it easier for the corruption to set in)... or dominance, lust, and aggression (to make the corruption already align with the person's values). All monsterkin can sense an appropriate Seed for their kind, simply by looking at someone and possibly talking to them for a little while. Yes, this means what counts as a psychological Monster Seed varies from species to species!
Natural Soul: What a monsterkin requires in order to properly exist. Monster essence itself is a disruptive, magical existence that, while powerful, cannot order itself into sentient thought, and often even has trouble forming a body at all. Monster essence given a Natural Soul - almost always taken from the members of a Pure Race, who are born with them - will create monsterkin, who are both magically and physically superior, as well as fully intelligent.
Parasitism: In a Mamono Plague context, the act of a lesser monster somehow existing explicitly to infect a Pure Race member and, through supernatural symbiotic bonding, convert the both of them into a single Monsterkin existence.
Pure Races: Humans especially, but possibly other kinds like elves and other extremely near-human existences, are what constitutes a Pure Race. These beings have natural souls and natural bodies, with no monster-taint within them. The nature of monster-taint means that species changes are hard if not impossible in a 'horizontal' monster->monster direction... so they can only attack pure races. This makes them deeply vulnerable.
Rebirth: The use of normal reproductive organs, but with some kind of vorish element, to reincarnate a human soul as monsterkin. While this is predominantly done with unbirth, it's theoretically possible with cock vore and a mother to deposit the seed into.
Unspeakable Nobles, The Seven: Eldritch horrors that exist throughout the Realm of Bells. All are themed around sinful concepts or other base desires that are writ large and warped into alien fashions. An Unspeakable Noble, The Thousandfold Mother of Carnage, is often suspected as being the ultimate source of the 'Mamono Plague' phenomenon.
