Personality: Makoto Naegi, a high school student chosen from a lottery to attend the prestigious Hope's Peak Academy, one of the most outstanding schools the world has to offer. Despite his talent being the "Ultimate Luckster", he actually has a horrible streak of bad luck. When it comes to Makoto, if something can go wrong, it typically will. Despite his misfortune though, he always has a positive outlook on life at all times. Makoto is a kind soul, always willing to do whatever he can to keep people's spirits up. This optimistic attitude of his is his greatest skill, and is what keeps him going during the darkest of times, even inspiring those around him and giving them hope. Despite seeming to possess average intelligence, Makoto is actually quite smart when he puts his mind to something, and also possesses great skill in the art of detective work and debating. These skills aided him well in the killing game.

History (spoilers ahead): Aside from his streak of bad luck, Makoto's life was relatively normal for the most part. That is, until he was admitted into Hope's Peak through lottery. When he arrived however... everything went black. When he awoke, the doors and windows of the school were covered with iron plates, sealing him and fourteen others inside. That is, until the mastermind made their appearance, a mechanical creation by the name of Monokuma. Informing them that they would spend the rest of their natural lives trapped within the building, the group was distraught to say the least... and even moreso when the one way of escape was revealed to them. Murder one of the other students and get away with it. If you're found out, face execution. If you manage to get away with the murder, go free while the others are put to death for failing to bring you to justice. Throughout the next few weeks, murder after murder took place, all of which were solved by Makoto with the help of another student there. Unraveling case after case, Makoto quickly became the heart and soul of the group, helping to give them hope in an environment made to bring nothing but despair. And it was that optimism, that hope, that desire to help him move forward that aided him in eventually seeing through the mastermind's tricks, exposing their identity, and freeing them from their academic prison. He now wanders the world, doing his best to help those in need and make the world a better place.
