Looks... well, normal! Doesn't she?

She's not. Not by a long shot. But lets start with a little history.

Maelin Varma is just your ordinary girl from somewhere no one has ever heard of. At least, in theory. Nothing special about her, not that anyone can see. Of course, we all know that there is more than meets the eye. For one, Maelin is RAVENOUS. And she's stretchy enough for that to be no issue at all. Still, its not her fault she's so hungry. She can't help being born the way she was. See, she's got an odd genetic disorder. Her body processes whatever she eats faster than any other body could. Literally, the instant it reaches her stomach, its been digested. At least, if its normal food. The other side of her ailment is that things that are still alive are much more difficult for her to digest.

So. She CAN eat people, and indeed NEEDS to eat people to live, to get enough food. Her body processes her food with incredible efficiency, producing no waste and no excess fat. Just enough energy is stored to keep her alive and growing. But, still, people in her belly STAY in her belly for a LONG time.

Still, its worth it for the energy rewards. Her tiny little body is incredibly demanding, even if it is incredibly efficient in many ways. Indeed, some would say that live food is what it is MEANT to handle, leaching every last bit of nutrition from her prey.

That is in fact the case. See, she's NOT human. It is a genetic condition in that her whole species is like that.

See, Maelin was substituted for a human girl as an infant. Left in a cradle formerly occupied by a perfectly ordinary human baby, she was taken in by parents who never knew any different. She seemed... well, healthy! Especially with such an appetite! Of course, as she grew, so too did her appetite. Her parents soon grew concerned, and had various doctors and mages take a look at her, to try to figure out what was wrong with her. Of course, most of the mages were too low-level to see what she was. The only one who did see, though, was an unscrupulous sort. He said that he could find nothing wrong with her, and that, therefore, it must be something natural. several night later, though, he tried to kidnap her... and that was when she discovered that she could eat humans! Mainly by devouring the unscrupulous mage. His magic could not penetrate her stomach, to harm her, nor could he teleport out. Worried that she would get in trouble, Maelin ran away that night, lugging her massively swollen gut, and she stayed in the forest for several days, as her belly slowly shrank. Only once she was sure she would be okay did she come back.

Of course... after that fateful meal, no normal food would satisfy her! She could eat, and eat, and eat, but it was never enough, never filling or satisfying. So, one night, she ran away again, with a sword she was given as a gift by a local blacksmith boy who had a small thing for her, and a set of comfortable clothes. And she has been wandering ever since.

As to what she is? She doesn't know.

She is stronger and faster than a normal kid, though. And, of course, stretchy. She doesn't like to eat people who don't deserve it though. As to what else there may be... who knows?
