The Chupacabra (literally "Goat Sucker") is a vampiric bane on the farming population, typically feeding on livestock by draining the animals of their blood (though their name was given to them due to their frequent feeding from goats, it was eventually revealed that they are, themselves, goat-like creatures). Normally, they stick away from humans and sentient creatures because they are typically fearful...

Little is known about the elusive species, other than that the population is extremely small. None have ever really come around to "socialise" or be around people... Until Machismo, that is.

Machismo doesn't believe in sticking to the customs. She doesn't like being forced to do things or being told what to do. She doesn't fear the daylight, which is uncomfortable for the Chupacabras to be in.

She was disowned by her father after her repeated refusal to stick to tradition and cultural convention, but found herself mostly feeling all the more free without the expectations of her parent and her people weighing constantly down on her.

With her newfound freedom, she still hasn't really integrated into society. She's a homeless, nomadic thief that takes what she wants with no regard for personal property. She (mostly) sticks to her natural diet, but occasionally indulges in "treats," despite the fact that they severely upset her stomach. All in all, she is content with her new life.

Trivia:
1. In most cases, the Chupacabra female dies in childbirth. As such, most children are raised by their fathers for a time until being sent off on their own. They (normally) do not travel together outside of parent-child and marital relationships.

2. Machismo's father gave her the name 'Machismo,' which means "aggressive masculine pride." This is because males tend to live longer and are typically much more dominant than females. It is any parent's wish for their offspring to live long and to prosper, and it is suggested that one's name strongly influences how well they live. It may seem crass, but it was actually a very loving gesture.

3. The Chupacabras feed on blood; it's the way that they get all of their nutrients. They don't need to feed on a lot at once; one can live off of draining one goat per day (or night). Eating solid/normal food is actually harmful to them. Not in that it will kill them immediately, but that it holds little nutritional value and that "normal" food doesn't agree with their systems. Machismo is no different in that case, but while almost all of her kind exclusively feed on blood, she has found that she quite enjoys the taste of a lot of the foods that other species can eat. She especially loves spicy food and sweets, but she enjoys many different flavour combinations.

-a. The only thing she's found she really doesn't like are cherries. Anything cherry flavoured or anything with cherries, she turns her nose up to.

4. Chupacabras also are nocturnal creatures and live under the shroud of night, not by choice, but out of necessity. Bright sunlight is extremely painful for most of them. Enough sun exposure in a whole day is enough to kill them. They call the ailment "sun sickness." Machismo can endure more sunlight than most of her kind can, but she still tries to keep her exposure to sunlight as low as possible.

5. Chupacabras are (typically) monogamous and usually mate for life. When one's mate dies, they normally do not attempt to look for another.
