Personality:


Lyrae is a very proud being. As Guardian of the heavenly realm Ozora, one of the many realms high up in the heavens, home of many angels and good souls of the deceased, she has an important, yet honourable position. As such, she knows how to behave as a guardian and does not let anyone intimidate her or otherwise deduct her from the duty she has been fulfilling for millenia. Lyrae is fearless and concentrated while on duty. Gentle towards the spirits of the honourably deceased, fierce against anyone who wants to get past her without her given permission.
Lyrae has a dominant personality with a very strong self confidence, one could even say she's conceited. Lyrae believes in her natural right to claim the bodies and souls of lesser beings, especcially small ones and while she's not really narcistic, she believes that Lyrae, as a celestial being, is close to being the perfect being and may decide over life and death of others. Claiming the bodies and souls of the beings she slays or devours, she slightly adds the best pieces of them to her own body, making it even more great and adding her victim's wisdom to her own.
Lyrae bows to no one besides gods and other celestial creatures of her size and she really likes to show lesser beings such as mortals their place and will speak lowly of and to them, often even teasing them after they have been swallowed whole and alive. It's her natural order and people who oppose her are often considered either brave or foolish, depending on how good they stood against Lyraes powerful attacks and magic. Gaining her respect or being mocked after a shameful defeat will not change the fact that Lyrae is content in eating her prey. They either deserved death, or will serve for a greater good in case they had something Lyrae saw worthy enough to be absorbed and made her own.

Having absorbed the wisdom of countless victims Lyrae managed to increase her own already powerful intelligence and now she considers herself to be one of the smartest beings around. She likes to proove her wisdom to others and make them feel like tiny morsels in front of Lyrae. This shows in the form of riddles and talk about philosophical questions and she becomes very angry in case someone actually matches her mind.
Being so full of herself, it's actually easy to displease Lyrae, especcially when being unwilling prey, and when they do, Lyrae becomes very jealous and aggressive. Not to the point where she would try to kill an opponent other than eating them, but inflicting some pain and humiliation.
Then again, willing morsels will find a very gentle and merciful Sphinx in front of them, as long as they don't question Lyraes superiority and her rightful position waaay above them in the food chain.

Location and Job:

The gates of heaven may look differently from realm to realm, but most of them have in common that they are everything but unguarded. Ozora, a heavenly realm consisting of an unending amount of islands floating in the sky, each representing the most comfortable surroundings to the soul inhabitating it, is one of those. It may only be entered via a so called "terra incognita" which can only be found through sheer luck or a skilled guide, usually in the form of an angel, though not all angels know how to get there. There are some cases where temporary or permanent portals to this terra incognita have been established as well, be it due to dimensional teleportation magic or mighty celestial artifacts.

The terra incognita leading towards the heavenly realm named Ozora is a single floating island within Ozora, but it is surrounded by a truly unbreakable barrier. In fact, it is impossible even for a god to break through, because said barrier is a spherical portal that leads directly into other realms, to which has yet to be found out, if it isn't even random.
Breaking through that barrier is one single hole in the form of a medieval steel gate, big enough to allow a giant to pass through and despite its appearance able to withstand the impact of even the mightiest force that would be able to try to break through without permission.

Resting in front of said gate is the Gatekeeper, which is, at least throughout every second month, Lyrae.
