There are many various races and peoples that worship, devote themselves, and claim origins or power from the moon. They range from benevolent, upstanding individuals who guard the night and speak of the light keeping the night from succumbing to darkness, to vicious, nasty beasts and monsters, vampires and werewolves being two particularly notable examples. Full Moon, New Moon, there are a few fringe groups that even speak mostly of the crescent moon. It seems that that particular celestial body has no particular allegiances and can offer power or solace to whoever asks. Katar is one of those fringe groups that lay claim to the Crescent.

Specifically, Katar is a Champion of the Waning Crescent, when the glory of the Moon has reached its peak and entered into a sharp decline. For her and her fellow worshippers this symbolizes how everything must wax and then wane. They are agents of change and destruction in the simplest of terms, for something that does not wane is not only unnatural, but outright harmful to the order of the universe. Katar in particular likes to interpret this as helping people's lives pass waxing and into waning, by having their bodies wane away inside of hers.

Of course, some day, her own life is going to reach its full moon and start to wane, and she'll have to start suffering. Fortunately by elven standards she is very young, so she has plenty of time before that happens. Until then she plans to live life to the fullest, amass wealth, resources, all kinds of things, so that when the time comes, she'll have plenty of resources to fritter away as she wanes away to her end. Assuming of course, no one has her wane in the same way she forces others to.
