Laura Jesowin Voss is a product of a world catering to two dominant, Human-like species. The Vartan and their macro counterparts, the Qutor, a subspecies that splintered off thousands of years ago in a fashion similiar to Earth's Human's and apes coming from a common ancestor. Neither species managed to overly populate and dominate the world due to other hostile forces present on the planet. Throughout the ages, the two races would struggle for dominance as the Vartan could overwhelm individual Qutor and the macros unable to unify, preferring to be solitary creatures.
For thousands of years, this dynamic between the two would remain relatively equal with skirmishes being experenced sporadically in the eons until nearly their modern eras. With the advent of civilization and society being moreso than simple villages, the premise of war to settle the worldly dispute was on nigh. Unlike many worlds however, the duel peoples of Wanto managed to come to an uneasy peace after a decade of tension and close calls. The society that culminated following those tense circumstances took nearly 100 years to stabilize from racial tensions and suspicions to how strong the ties could actually be among the two races.
Now to present day, there is a general consensus that the right path had been taken. The smaller Vartan disbanded their militaries of individual nations and the Qutor formed a global 'tribe' that acts as the maintainer of peace among all the world's countries. No one nation is able to establish a controlling presence militarily while a literal army of giant soldiers are always at the ready and could quite literally crush any opposition!
And for those curious to what the Qutor get out of this seemingly overly beneficial defense of the Vartan? To put it mildly, they get to be giants. When the global Senate approves military action by the giant soldiers on a wayward nation, the Qutor are authorized to act like the stories of old. To crush, devour, and otherwise terrorize the nation they are sent into, along with specific missions to quell the unruly government. This tends to keep high enlistment rates of the Qutor from those eager to engage in baser instincts and desires.
Which leads finally to the tale of Laura Voss.
An officer of modest ability and talent, Laura is relatively ordinary among her people and military. Try to envision how ordinary society, culture, and daily life would be for a race of giant people and you have Laura to a tee. She indulges in personal hobbies, goes out socializing, and performs her occupational tasks to the best of her ability. Pretty average in almost every aspect. The only qualities that set her outside the norm compared to other races is her tremendous size and a rather nonchalant attitude towards the consumption, crush, and otherwise harm given to any race/being she considers 'less' than her. ( Racial superiority set to the max! ) Not to say she displays this attitude outward all the time, but rather she displays it as most of her brethren do, when out on a mission or area declared an 'enemy zone'. Psychological warfare is best warfare! And how best to do it than with a 200+ ft. tall macro willing to rip you buildings apart and consume you by the dozens?
