Varela is the young daughter of the local mid ranking nobility, it's perhaps a little too complicated and beyond the scope of what's necessary to fill you in on their exact role and standing within the political hierarchy. Suffice to say they hold power over the local population, but answer to higher autorities. As the daughter of nobility Varela grew up sheltered, with every opportunity to educate herself, learn manners and become a desireable match for marriage. Varela is much of that, she's been attending her lessons, learned to dance, to play her part during balls and meetings with other nobles. But she chafes at the idea of marrying someone she's not interested in. To avoid this, she has... in subtle ways and not so subtle ways sabotaged negotiations, rebuffed suitors her parents had invited over, acting clumsy or stupid when meeting them. At first this had not been a problem, but now her suitors are far and few between and she has earned herself a reputation as a bit of a disaster of a noblelady and her parents are very much fed up with her antics, knowing full well what their daughter was doing. So what is the kitty hoping for? Well, Varela has filled her head with all sorts of slightly twisted and dangerous romantic fantasies. Being set upon by some evildoer an outcat of society, abducted only to change them and win over their heart. Or being rescud by an attractive adventurer ready to sweep her off her feet before asking her parents for her hand in marriage. Varela is far more familiar and flirty with the common folk, not because of some notion that they're all the same, no, she was still a noblelady at heart.
