You're bound to have heard it before, as it frequents virtually every comic book and themed movie on the subject of heroics. So cliche', so overly used and taken for granted, that the impact and meaning of the phrase has likely faded in its vast reaching consequences and implications.

"With great power, comes great responsibility."

It is synonymous with virtually every hero's creed, the very foundation to which they base their entire lifestyle and identity upon. And it is the reason for Darlene Taylor's fall from grace, albeit temporary in scope.

Darlene, formerly known as Lady Marvel, was the pride of nations and followers of justice. She was the ideal heroine with great powers and years of experience under her belt. Countless villains and their minions had been locked away at her single-handed efforts or joint missions with others that donned cape and mask. However, her 20 year reign as a masked heroine came to a dismal, somber, and vicious end upon that pivotal concept of responsibility.

Her secret identity had been uncovered.

The very reason such heroes mask themselves, hide from the obvious light to their personal lives has always been modeled around protecting those close to them. It was that protection that Darlene ended up losing in a very fetal sense. As the media went rampant with the news of who Lady Marvel was, the villains worked en masse to track down and harm anyone she had acquainted with.

The culmination of such an onslaught led to the death of her beloved husband, her children having to be taken into federal protection likely never to be seen by her again, and the half-willing outcasting of nearly every friend and acquaintance she once had, just to protect those she loved.

She no longer found the will to wear her uniform, finding it useless in the reasons it once held. Now, she tends to wearing casual attire that would befit anyone from the street. Her expression was always that of depression, though thankfully she maintained the spirit to continue using her abilities for good, rather than succumb to a recluse lifestyle.

The heroine has fallen, but not passed from memory. She perseveres, even when so much has been lost, and so much has become so difficult to re-attain.
