Kuudere was given her name by a man she met when she was only fifteen. She fell in love with this man and, after years of loving one another in secret, he passed away. She watched him grow old and die in what seemed to be such a short period of time. Ever since then, she's gone back to her usual distant self, keeping others at arm's length whenever possible. She's refused to allow herself to become attached to anything, as life is fleeting.

She does, however, have a sense of duty to prevent yokai (and other things that go bump in the night) from taking human life. While she does recognise the evanescence of humans, she also thinks that all beings should be able to live their lives to their fullest (so long as that "fullest" doesn't involve causing unnecessary harm to others). She works to eliminate threats to the greater good of all life and to warn those in danger of that fact.

The only being she's ever been bested by is Nihilist, who seems to be her equal as far as power goes, but opposite as far as ideals. Kuudere has a strong sense of right and wrong from her time spent with the late Tamotsu, but Nihilist does not. It seems that poor Kuudere is often just one step behind the sneaky Nihilist and many times the grey fox has been unable to save whoever it is that Nihilist is placing into harm's way...

Trivia:
1. Of the few that have met both Kuudere and Nihilist and lived to tell the tale, many come to theorise that the two are sisters, though neither have confirmed nor denied this fact.

2. Kuudere doesn't really need to eat in the same way humans do. While she can get by well and good from eating human food, what suits her more is consuming life energy and souls, as well as the blood of the living. She tries to avoid doing this and instead eats human cuisine, but she's often indulged in consuming her vanquished foes.

3. Kuudere, like Nihilist normally chooses to go without shoes. She typically can be seen wearing a silken kimono of dark blues and silvers with varying design/embroidery, despite the era in which she is played.
