Kokoro here, contrary to what you might think at first, is actually human. Those dog ears and tail, that's part of her power. You see, Kokoro was born with the ability to channel spirits into herself, other people, and even objects, imbuing the target with the abilities of whatever spirit was channelled into them. To use her appearance as an example, she channeled the spirit of a dog into herself to give herself the ears and tail, heightened sense of smell, hearing, and all thr other things a dog has! Her channelling applies to near anything with a soul, be it human, monster, angel, demon, even a select few gods!
