Kimihara

Untold ages ago, when the heavens were still young, a great and mighty conqueror resided over neigh boundless riches. With countless coin and concubines to serve his every need, not a niggling of worry for his hoard's security ever crossed his mind. That was, until one day he awoke to find his coffers emptied! Every farthing, every crumb, had been stolen from right under his nose. The divine warlord lifted his fist in fury, cursing the name of whoever dared to steal from him!

Kimihara despite his wellspring of supernatural abilities, never granted much weight to curses though. The cocksure king of bandits just sneezed, as his loyal band of like-minded thieves wheeled away wagons upon wagons of plundered wealth! Like the many lords he'd robbed before, Kimihara was so blinded by prosperity he could never imagine losing it all.
...that is, until he did.

The greater the mighty nine-tailed kitsune's reputation grew, the more envious his lieutenants became. Eventually, they conspired to meet with a wizened guru in secrecy. Coming under the guise of spirits personally afflicted by Kimihara's unrestrained greed, they begged for salvation: 'He is too mighty! How can anyone hope to stop him?' Despite his misgivings the sage recognized the suffering Kimihara had both wrought and endured; thus he bestowed upon them the forbidden 'Eightfold Art of Sealing'. So that the 'Scourge of the Heavens' might be humbled, and learn through his low position the importance of sharing one's self. However, he underestimated how stubborn the wily fox could be. At his most vulnerable, Kimihara was betrayed by his most trusted underlings and promptly stripped of his power. Gone was the nine-tailed king of thievery, reduced to a bitter and diminutive state before being cast out of heaven! For centuries he'd live among the ranks of men, seeking some way to undo his curse without learning whatever 'lesson' the guru intended for him. It has been...less than successful.
