Julian

There are many paths to power, light and dark. We all make our own way in the end.

The Dark Arts aren't for everyone, of course... and neither are they technically evil. No one knows this better than Julian. He could have been a Priest, or a Mage. He chose, instead, to be a Shaman, to study the darkness rather than light, or the sacred elements. However, he will firmly deny any accusations of him being evil, and with good reason. You see... he isn't.

Most of the time, he is devoted to studying texts. Ancient tomes, detailing the experiments, spells, and research of mages and shamans long since gone. In fact, he's actually one of the chief researchers at the Ars Arcanum University, where many of the finest mages are formally trained before they are permitted to serve. A prestigious position, and one that serves him well, and is served well by him. He's returned from his many journeys with quite a few rare tomes, some of which were thought lost forever. At the same time... well. Something about him gives the students the willies. That's probably just the rumors surrounding him, though.

As for those rumors... well, there's always rumors surrounding the faculty. Dark rituals, perverse habits, relations with demons and the like... most of them are completely false. Some of them, though... some of them hit closer to home than many of the teachers would like. None of Julian's are true, though.

That's not to say that there isn't something dark about him, though... or something unusual. In fact, he's just kept anyone from finding out about it. What this secret is, though, is... well, me revealing it would defeat its purpose, now wouldn't it? So you'll have to play to find out.

Julian's specialty, of course, is Dark Magic. Chaos and Darkness, as it were. His magic is highly destructive, compared to Anima magics, and much harder to use for healing, as compared to Light and Order magics favored by the priests. It is, however, highly effective when used against Anima magics, even if it weak against Light magics. And, in the hands of an accomplished caster like Julian, it can be truly terrifying.

Standing six feet four inches tall, Julian is one of the taller faculty members on the campus. His quiet nature and generally pleasant, unobtrusive mannerisms tend to lead to some awkwardness, as he has an unfortunate habit of quietly looming over someone, not speaking until he's noticed. Still, he seems harmless enough, at least so long as no one causes trouble...
