"The Jiang Shi is a Chinese vampire/zombie that's name translates to 'stiff corpse'. It is a horrific creature that usually hops along, and when it comes across a victim it will suck the life force out of them.

"Well...sure i'm kind of stiff, but i don't hop to get around...i can walk plenty fine....i do have a mean jump when i need it, though..."

The Jiang Shi is said to be raised by a necromancer, or when the soul of a dead man cannot leave his body due to reasons in life, such as they were a horrible troublemaker, or if they commit suicide. The body looks different due to when they were raised. If they are raised soon after death, their appearance looks almost like a normal human, however if they have decomposed some time before they come to life, they can look horrific and ghastly.

"That's all true, i was the kind that was raised by a necromancer...who sent me off on some mission to kill someone...guess what, i did and he said he would grant me life as long as he lived, and i was free to do as i like....silly bastard became immortal, so guess who's just as immortal as he is."

Usually they are described as a pale white colour with green hair, with moss, or mold growing on their flesh. They are said to have extremely long tongues and black, sharp fingernails, and they walk along with their arms outstretched.

"Yep, true...though I was lucky to not get any of the moss on me, and if any does get on me, i tend to scrape it off...and as for the arms outstretched, I don't do that...it looks too silly"

The Jiang Shi may be distracted if small objects are thrown about, in which case, like most vampires, it will stop to count them...and if one holds their breath when it passes, they may remain unnoticed.

Supposedly a 15cm piece of wood nailed to the width of the bottom of the door will stop a Jiang Shi from entering.

"...sadly both of those things are completely correct...i cant help but count things thrown toward me in a random fashion....though that wood thing only prevents me from entering without an invitation."

Mirror: Li Shizhen's medical book Bencao Gangmu mentioned, "A mirror is the essence of liquid metal. It is dark on the external but bright inside." Jiangshis are also said to be terrified of their own reflections.

Peach wood branch or peach wood sword: The Jingchu Suishi Ji mentioned, "Peach is the essence of the Five Elements. It can subjugate evil auras and deter ghosts."

A rooster's call: Yuan Mei's book Zi Bu Yu mentioned, "Ghosts withdraw when they hear a rooster's call"

Jujube seeds: Zi Bu Yu mentioned, "Nail seven jujube seeds into the acupoints on a corpse's back"

Fire: Zi Bu Yu mentioned, "When set on fire, the sound of crackling flames, blood rushes forth and bones cry."

Hoofs of a black donkey: Mentioned in Zhang Muye's fantasy novel Ghost Blows Out the Light

Vinegar: Mentioned by coroners in eastern Fujian.

"Lets see...mirrors don't work since i cant see myself in them, I've never heard a rooster's call before....never had a jujube seed near me...fire will scare the fuck out of any of my kind....never seen the hooves of a black donkey...but i can safely say vinegar does hurt me a lot....a hell of a lot...like...feel like I'm dying hurt"

"...oh, since those stupid books don't mention it enough...they say that jiang-shi cant talk, but those are the kind that are animated on their own...necromancers tend to raise us with intelligence....and how we absorb life force is anywhere from being close to someone, to licking them, to biting, to even just flat out bashing heads in and eating brains...though only the stupid ones do that, i just tend to hug or lick if i really need it"

"Wait, you wanna know about me? Well...my name at one time was Ma Jun Viel...but i really wanted to disassociate myself from my past, so i took the name Jovi...as for what I'm doing? Well...I'm immortal....think about it, i have nothing to lose...so I'm just checking out everything that i can."
