Joni

"Well ain't that just hunky-dory!"

Joni is a Texan gal, through and through. She was born in the small town of Tulia, and aside from the trip to San Antonio to visit the Alamo she hasn't traveled more than a hundred miles from her birthplace. She's a farmer and a rancher and she makes her living by taking care of the 640 acres of farmland left to her by her grandparents. During some parts of the year it isn't too bad- her only chores being the maintenance of the trio of 1/4 mile center-pivot irrigation systems that keep the cotton and corn and hay well-watered, along with tending to the sheep and cows and chickens. But harvest and planting time can get pretty hectic, and it's those times that she most laments not having anyone to help her out with the farming.

You see, Joni lives alone. Her brother left the farm after her dad ran his truck into a ditch after an afternoon of drinking and took a fencepost through the windshield. With her mom having passed away from cancer years before, she has a square mile of land to take care of and no one to share it with. At least no one sentient. But here's hoping that'll change soon! Not owning a computer, Joni had a friend in town post an ad on craigslist:

Free place to stay, if you're willing to help out! - $1 (Tulia) pic

Large farmhouse with four spare rooms! Looking for roommates, must be able to help out around the farm. No rent necessary! Willing to share profit from farm as long as you help. Here's what I need-
*Someone to cook and clean the farmhouse and maybe the barn. And do laundry, that sorta thing. Anyone with maid experience preferred!
*Someone strong for heavy lifting and pulling. Horse anthros and centaurs especially desirable!

A few of the faces of 16 year-old Joni.

Even at the tender age of 9 Joni was quite the feisty tyke.
