The Red-Hawks' bus was winding its way through steep mountain roads on the way to a little league conference when something horrible happened. The baseball team was mostly asleep, but Rene had stayed awake - staring at the blue night-time haze of the Idaho moon through his window.

The rickety hum of the large Bus engine had been frustrating to the boy at first, but now, after hours - it was a placid rumbling that helped to soothe his senses, lulling him closer and closer to sleep. Rene wondered if they would win their game in the afternoon and he wondered what his parents were doing back at home.

His quiet reverie was harshly interrupted. With a grinding screech the bus swerved around a looping corner, going off the road, teetering over thousands of feet of jagged cliff-side - and Rene covered his face and head desperately as the tons of steel around him began to skid and topple.

It fell off the craggy ledge, crushing and barreling down the rocky mountainside into the darkness of trauma, blood, oil, and flame. When they searched the wreckage Rene was the only one whose body was not found.

In the midst of what were to be his final moments, something happened. A portal was opened between this world and the next at that threshold of death. Rene awoke after what seemed like the longest sleep of his life. He was in a wild area with trees and open plains. A far away town loomed on a hilly horizon, but Rene retreated behind the treeline where he saw an abandoned cabin.

Armed with his charm, potions, and a roughly hewn baseball bat that he carved, he creeps through the forest in search of treasure or a new place to live. Will he go to the strange city on a hill? The possibility tempts, but also frightens the young refugee.
