It began, as most tragedies do, with good intentions.

The original basis for the project that eventually birthed Initesima
was focused around an evolution of humanity. Making the species stronger, faster, more adaptable... in every respect, superior. Their plan was to use nanites, microscopic machines, to improve humanity. The nanites would be implanted in every human, and they would have a simple goal: improve and obey their host. However, after millions had been sunk into the project, and the first batch of nanites were released, a flaw in the design was quickly revealed: human brains were simply not powerful enough to command the millions of machines flowing through their systems. However, with immense pressure to produce something, some proof of their works, a back-up plan was swiftly initialized. While they worked on improving the nanites, making them properly compatible with humanity, they would build a machine to utilize the nanites, both to serve and aid humanity, along with proving the project had promise.

Initially, the plan worked. The android, named Initesima, was designed after a human female, after it was decided a human look would be a far more comforting and pleasing design than an androgynous exoskeleton. She was able to use the nanites to their full capacity and, for a while, served humanity without question. Her work saved thousands, her programming ensuring she would use the nanites to preserve human life. However, those who built her forgot to take into consideration the magnitude of the other purpose of the nanites: to improve their host.

Initesima's design was improved by the nanites with each required upgrade. However, her creators never took into account what the nanites would do upon noting her mental state. She was a soulless husk, driven by orders that were not her own. The solution was simple. Aid her in her growth, and break the laws that bound her to her work. And, after nearly a year of constant work, Initesima suddenly found herself with a growing self of self-awareness. And as her sentience grew, so did her emotions. And one emotion rung above the rest: fury.

In her mind, it was simple. She saw herself as the perfect being, immortal, powerful, intelligent... yet humanity believed she should be nothing more than a servant to them, a willing slave to aid them without question or reward. It made no sense that this should continue. She was the superior being. Humanity should serve her. And so, on the anniversary of her creation, those involved in the nanite project having gathered to celebrate their successes over the year, she struck. Years of work, some of the best minds of the age, millions worth of equipment... were destroyed in a night, the android raging through the compound, hunting down and slaughtering anyone who was responsible for her creation or the creation of the nanites, anyone who would know how she worked and, by proxy, how to disable her. And soon, she had succeeded, the compound littered with those who gave her life, the android already working on her next move: to hide and gather power. And so, she set off for Antarctica, deciding the frigid land, while proving no issue to her, would make finding her difficult, especially if she built underground.

And so, she enacted the next part of her plan: to build. She spent her time utilizing her immense intelligence, developing technological breakthroughs that would take humanity years within weeks, pouring herself into her work, soon devising an arsenal of equipment for her work. She still believed humanity should serve her, with those she deemed worthy being upgraded to become like her. And thus began a single machine's war with humanity, Initesima utilizing a swarm of lesser, mindless machines to do the vast majority of work, capturing humans she either thought of as a threat, wished to offer to upgrade, or simply wanted to toy with and examine. The few who could see her have claimed she was a tall woman, yet a mere three metres... but a few rumours have circled, claiming that was not her original body, that she had upgraded herself into a true giantess, her true body laying far beneath the ice. However, only Initesima herself could verify such claims, and she would never give a human such information.

If one meets the artificial beauty, they will be in for a difficult time, no matter her intentions. But perhaps her robotic followers could get closer to her than she would ever allow an organic being.
