Inaina

Inaina (Ee-nai-ee-na) is a giant serpent residing in the deep oceans in the south western pacific. Living out a mostly feral lifestyle as she patrols the deep oceans searching for schools of fish, giant squid, or anything else big enough to sate her collosal appetite. Really only spotted at the surface while basking in the sun for breif moments before she dives back out of sight. Typically avoiding humans because they're more trouble than their worth as a food source, and she finds little interest in small talk. Though she has above average intelligence despite spending the majority of her time in solitude, meaning she is capable of communication with those who keep her attention.

She can be seen as a minor deity, a causer and preventer of natural disasters depending upon her mood. Capable of unleashing massive tidal waves, whirlpools, and earthquakes if provoked. Thankfully for islanders she is very easily placated; just looking for peace and quiet, prefering not to cause a ruckus or waste any energy herself. Unfortunately for humanity as a whole... their machines and particularly their motorized boats are very noisy, making them targets of her anger. Being able to sink ships ten times her size if they don't make a swift exit from her territory.

For those who wind up in the water alone with her, she could be your gaurdian angel or your pearly white gate to hell. She's very indifferent to people, seeing them as just another link beneath her on the food chain. While she won't actively hunt them down, she also won't say no to free food if it's stranded out in the ocean. The only real way to catch her "sympathetic" side is if one were lucky enough to be between her and her way towards one of the island communities that still pays her tribute. Dropping off hitchhikers to join festivities.

Tribute to Inaina is usually fairly simple, usually just offerings of the food a community can spare. She knows she can't expect small communities to supply a grand feast for her everytime but she appreciates occasional change from her normally completely carnivorous diet of fish and squid. Particularly she has a fondness for baked sweet potatoes , treating them as if they were a dessert dish. Aside from food she also accepts pampering in the forms of helping her keep up her hygeine. Being too large to make use of the cleaning stations other aquatic life uses, she makes use of human ingenuity and dexterity to spruce herself up. Greatly enjoying the feel of getting a good back scrub! What she offers in return ranges from simply moving large objects, to helping haul in a big catch in their fishing boats, to warding off other giants of the sea. While she certainly isn't the biggest thing in the depths, she packs a hard enough bite to send most on their way.
