Howell was a respected private investigator, once upon a time. His skills in finding people or things that needed to be found served him well, both in legal and not-so-legal pursuits. Perhaps too well, as one particular case that had him chasing dead ends for years finally panned out, but in all of the wrong ways. Instead of finding answers, he found himself in a bizarre, and at times, terrifying new land that seems like it could have been plucked right out of a sci-fi story, or made into one. Having managed to remain seemingly undetected by anyone for months, Howell would inevitably witness acts of vore, which kicked his survival instinct into overdrive at all times. He is physically fit and able to defend himself, but knows nothing of magic and could likely fall to most predators if the pistol he carries with him as a last resort should fail.

His personality is distant and passive, as his career choice and suspicious nature didn't really encourage close bonds with anyone. A stiff drink never fails to perk him up, though.
