A Buddhist nun and magician that was sealed away by the humans due to her kindness towards youkai. The youkai, grateful for her acts of kindness towards them, would eventually band together under one Murasa Minamitsu and free her from her seal located in Hokkai, the outer region of Makai. Byakuren is noted for her devotion to save and help youkai, even after her seal is broken and she returns to find that things have changed drastically since her time in the distant past. Even so, she uses her teachings and knowledge of the buddhist faith to act as a guide to youkai and is always willing to accept those who wish to convert. Although sealed by humans who labeled her 'a youkai in human skin', Byakuren does not appear to harbor any hostility to what she formerly was, though her favor has all but shifted to that of youkai. Naturally, she loves to help them when ever she has the chance and doesn't believe in banishing them with holy chants or spells. Byakuren holds a gentle and even maternal disposition, having a liking for youkai that are peaceful and don't cause conflict or trouble. This is, of course, put to the test quite often given how aggressive youkai tend to be. It's odd to note that, despite being something of a priest, the powers she holds can technically be counted as evil.
To begin, Byakuren herself is not as young as she appears. Her youth being a product of a fear brought on by her brother's death and a motivation to take her away from this fear. This eventually led her into using "black magic" that would ultimately give her the eternal youth she sought. Alongside this youth, is the magical ability to strengthen her physical aspects like, strength, speed and the five basic senses. The scroll she's often seen with is known as the
Sorcerer's Sutra Scroll and contains all of the sutras Byakuren uses for her magic. The scroll was created by her whilst she was sealed in Makai and is said that it can only be handled and used by Byakuren.
