Gozen is a scavenger on the planet Xaing. She sells metal and robotics she finds to a race of mushroom people called "Darklings". That's the very basic summary.

Planet D-077, known better by its inhabitants as Xaing, was once teeming with life. It was a utopia which humans ruled over with one nation, Fuzun. Fuzun was highly advanced technologically space travel, flying vehicles, and the like were child's play. Almost all of it was thanks to the discovery of a large chunk of Fuzunite, an unusual element with many unknown properties. Fuzunite was the core of Fuzun, it's what kept everything working. It had to remain encased however, not only could it just float away but it was VERY radioactive. If a disaster were to come, it could spell doom for the surface inhabitants of Fuzun.
Fuzun ran on a monarchy. Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, the whole deal. Life was fairly swell until the Darklings attacked. The Darklings were mushroom people that lived deep in the caverns in Xaing. They had grown tired of Fuzun drilling holes into the planet and wished to wipe out humanity. Normally, humanity would have won. However, the darklings set their sights on the Fuzunite. Upon its release, it's heat caused the local vegetation to set ablaze. The anything that was above ground was killed from radiation, heat, or both. Only a few members of humanity survived. One of those being a 12 year old (in earth years) princess Paxtn.
A decade (in earth years) has passed since then. Paxtn had learned to survive on hear own in a harsh wasteland. She changed her name to Gozen after the sounds that darklings used to begin and end their names with. She works as a scavenger, selling the remains of Fuzun to the darklings for food and water. Day in and day out, it's the same routine. Of course, all of this would one day change when she met Alexandrine.
