GordonFreemane

This character brought into being through A_Divine_Disaster.

"Dr. Freemane? Phew, I'm coming with you."

How many times had he heard those words....

Gordon's life had started out fairly simply, he'd been born mute, but his parents had taken good care of him... They'd made sure he had what he needed, and that he got a good education, and even paid for the massive amounts of paper he went through communicating with people without a complaint... The young earth pony practically soaked up knowledge, particularly fascinated with magic. Not the casting of it, no, that was beyond his reach, and he knew it... What fascinated Gordon was the *mechanics* of it, how it worked.

So, while still shocking, it was a bit less of a surprise than it could have been, when entering college... Gordon decided that his goal was a doctorate in Theoretical Arcanism... And to the amazement of even his parents, he managed it. Eight years of unrelenting study and research, and the earth pony knew more about magic than most unicorns ever will! But now a problem presented itself, where was a pony who knew much about magic, but was entirely unable to use it, find work?

An answer did present itself, with time, but it was not what Gordon thought... A job offer from a very secretive lab known as The Black Mesa Magical Research and Development Facility. Gordon, and his friends and family thought it was amazing... Well, Gordon stopped thinking it was so great upon arrival. Due to his inability to speak, or cast magic, he was delegated duties such as, well... Pushing a cart around. Pushing buttons... Pulling levers, and not much else.

The catastrophe that befell the lab could have been averted if they'd heeded Gordon's frantic warnings, trying to tell them of a few critical flaws in the new teleportation spell they were working on... But no one listened to him. The spell failed horribly, creatures from outside the world of ponies were drawn in through a portal, the world opened up to strange, alien beings... With murderous intent. Gordon was one of six survivors of the incident, and none of the others would have made it through, were it not for him...

But the trouble was not yet over for the good doctor, who had fought for his life, and won, with nothing but a crowbar and his hazardous environment suit... His supervisor from Black Mesa, a unicorn by the name of Wallace Bray, had been in contact with another alien race, and had hatched a thoroughly devious plot... An assassination of the two princesses that turned the days and nights, handing over the very world to the creatures that desired death and blood... Gordon stopped him, fought against him and his forces, halted the plan before it even left the ground.

So much he's been through, so much work he's done, he wants nothing more than to rest, these days... Study, do the work he always wanted to... But nothing can chase away the memories of the horrors he witnessed in the research facility, nothing can make it easier for him to sleep at night, keep him from waking up with a cold sweat from some repressed memory... Sometimes even silently screaming. He's seeking a quiet life, now... Time to rebuild. Perhaps meet and make new friends. Maybe this time, things will go right....

Race: Earth Pony

Gumption: 3 That crowbar had some force behind it.

Caring: 3 Everything he did was to protect others. He cares for other ponies, quite a bit.
Friendship: 1 He's rather new to the area....

Cutie Mark: The Lambda Symbol, this appeared when he discovered his love of magical knowledge and scientific thinking.
