Intro
Most would call her a mermaid but they would be wrong and more than likely just maker her angry. She has a humanoid shape, no tail, and has more fish like features than a mermaid. Plus, mermaids are apparently very prissy so she doesn't like being compared to them.

Story
She actually grew up pretty normal, well, normal if you add in the fact that she is part human and part fish. But this just means she grew up with a family and lived in a small community. She had a mother, a father, and even a little brother. They lived in the deep ocean, like miles below the surface of the ocean. Though it was safe there since their ancestors had started to be hunted and their entire species was at risk.
Surprisingly enough though they actually have very good eyes since instead of being in total darkness like the other creatures down there they grow a very rare coral that produces light about as bright as a regular light bulb. It can vary in size from about a small ball to a large coral reef. Another surprising thing about them is their versatility. They can live at and depth, in fresh water, in salt water, and can even go up on land for a few hours at a time since they even have lungs. Though they need some kind of water after a couple of hours or their skin will dry out which is not a pretty sight.
Life was pretty simple for her, the family helped grow the coral so she had to be sure to keep certain animals away from it and help it grow. It actually needs a lot of nutrients so part of her job would be to go out and find fish to eat so she could....fertilize the area. Which even large sharks would fall victim to their bellies so her species were top of the food chain.
What none of them expected though was when a human's submarine ended up finding their community. The humans managed to communicate to them to follow them back but none of them were brave enough, except Fifi who was happy to follow them back. When they got back to the surface everyone was shocked at the discovery of such a creature and even more surprised that she spoke. The word quickly spread about this but they were more than happy to introduce this new species to the world.
Now, not much has changed except that some fishermen might find a merfolk swimming by their boat wanting a fish or an annoyed one that got caught in their net. Though there have been some strange disappearances of people since then but no one really thinks it's the merfolk which they would be right, except for Fifi that is....

Her Diet
She eats pretty much any kind of fish, aquatic mammal, and the occasional mermaid, she happily shows off her belly after eating one of them. Which her species doesn't chew, they have rows of retractable sharp teeth that are only made for holding so they have to swallow everything whole. Which most of them very much enjoy having a big belly after eating a big meal since they can stretch out to an almost absurd size. Fifi is probably one of the most skilled predators there because of her job. Sometimes she may have to eat one of her own to help fertilize the are if she can't find any prey and admittedly she loves the taste of merfolk.
However she had expanded her diet since her species was actually discovered by people. To any thing that walks on the surface which includes people themselves. She swallows down the occasional swimmer or fishermen thrown overboard and will even gulp down any kid or adult she sees near the shore.

"Good things that there's people that live near the shore in pretty much any country. The amazon seems to have a lot of people that like to fall in though but more food for me"

Personality
Despite all this she is very nice and about as kind as anyone can get, she just has a big appetite. She'll swim along the side of fishing boats and talk with some of them for a few hours before swimming off, usually getting a treat before going. She has friend pretty much all over the world and thanks to how fast they can move in water she can visit most of them. Although if she's hungry and a friend falls into the water she'll send them to her belly. She will probably feel bad about it after even but she'll still enjoy digesting her friend down.

Reproducing
Now, her species has the same bits and pieces that people do but function a bit differently. For one, the girls still lay eggs but instead of the guys fertilizing them after they are laid it's done while they are still inside which most people would know how that is done. The eggs an be fertilized by other creatures but not all. They can be fertilized by humans but not every guy can actually fertilize the eggs.
There are about 20 eggs in total each time and even if they aren't fertilized they still have to come out. This happens on about a weekly basis, the females lay their eggs but they don't just leave them there. Usually the one who laid them will actually eat them. The eggs actually taste very good so the merfolk will sell them and sometimes they just give them out to random people, creatures, merfolk ect.
