Felicily

After a successful sophomore year at the university of Catumen City, Felicily's advisor called her in to discuss her final paper.

"It's quite well done, but your arguments reveal a serious bias of privilege. Have you ever traveled off the continent?" She had not. "Have you ever lived in a place where our kind is in the minority?" She bit her lip. All her life, she had heard of these other lands - places where her kind was an oddity, where humans and canines and other species were in the majority. "I'm signing you up for our exchange program... I'm excited to see what you learn from this experience."

As she stepped off the plane, she realized that she was in for a shocking year. Creatures large and small were everywhere. She clutched her bag close and walked down the road, trying to look like she belonged. She was approached several times - 'cat-called' was the term for it - and she quickly learned that her kind was seen as little more than an object to be used for sexual pleasure or even as food. To her horror, she found that she could be looked at the same way she herself viewed mouse people. It was simply not the way things were meant to be.

Every day is a learning experience. Her university sits on the edge of the city's small harbor and the famous park. Many of the friends she made on her first day disapeared into that park in the first weeks of classes... and she soon found her inbox filled with threats and lewd propositions from fellow students.

Where others of her kind have come to expect this treatment - many of them buying into the hypersexualized narrative of the anti-catriarchy - Felicily has found herself longing to stand up for her kind. Her papers on the subject have received poor scores from her new advisor... a wolfish fellow who openly leers at her during class.

It doesn't matter what they say. She will stand up for what is right. She will make them see that she is more than the sterotypes, the boxes they want to put her into. She will succeed.

Even if she has to hold a one-neko protest in the park to get their attention.
