Soon after Samus Aran's Zero Mission to the planet Zebes, the high command of the Galactic Federation met to discuss her performance. Samus had single-handedly eradicated the entire Space Pirate ground presence on Zebes, and destroyed a Space Pirate mothership; indeed, she and her Chozo abilities and armor were a great asset to the Federation, but with Samus' amazing skill and power came a number of concerns... The biggest problem was the slim possibility of Samus turning rogue and using her abilities against the Federation. After all, she was a bounty hunter, and could easily take a job for someone with ill will towards the Federation... General Adam Malcovich--Samus' CO--tried to object to these paranoid statements, saying that Samus was a dedicated soldier and would never betray him or the Federation, but the concerns of his superior officers outweighed his objections, and it was decided that if Samus should stray from being the last hope for humanity against the Space Pirates, the Federation would need a new last hope against Samus... And who better to stand up to Samus than Samus herself???
The Federation's top scientists spent the next three years studying Samus' Chozo tech and trying to replicate it, while also examining her Chozo DNA that gave her such incredible power. Out of this research, the Federation set to work creating the perfect match for Samus, and brought forth four perfect clones of the heroic bounty hunter, each one programmed with Samus' combat training and intellect, as well as a fierce loyalty to the Federation. Each clone was given a designation, codename, special Federation trooper armor, and prototypes of the Federation's newest achievement in assault mech technology. The G.F.S. Aegis in the Bermuda system would be their base of operations, and decorated general Alex Miles was appointed to be their commanding officer responsible for their deployment. Thus, in the Year of the Cosmos 2078, the Federation began Operation: Golem with their new elite team, the Federation Force!
The Team
Designation: SA-Alpha
Codename: Alpha
Position: Squad Leader
Alpha was the first successful Samus clone to be bred, programmed with a literal encyclopedia of military maneuvers and strategies for any situation. The other three girls look up to her and acknowledge her as a strong and capable leader, rivaled only by Samus herself. As denoted by her Zero Suit and eye color, Alpha pilots the blue mech, and is usually heading up the front of the team when on missions.
Designation: SA-Beta
Codename: Fixer
Position: Tech Specialist
Fixer was gifted with an exceptionally superior skill with machinery, and rivals some of the Federation's best engineers with her technical prowess. In the field, she is most useful for hacking into an enemy's mainframe, or decrypting data that the Aegis science team can't crack. On her downtime, she takes great pride in repairing any damage done to the mech suits, and seeing what parts she can tinker with for new mods and upgrades. Fixer pilots the green mech suit into battle, and is usually seen bringing up the rear of the group, except when Alpha needs her at her side.
Designation: SA-Gamma
Codename: Pyro
Position: Demolitions Specialist
Pyro loves explosives almost as much as she loves working out! Easily the strongest member of the team, Pyro uses this strength to her advantage in the field, usually doing the heavy lifting of volatile cargo. Pyro pilots the yellow mech suit, and is often seen in the center of the group, unless they are escaping from a target location. Then she brings up the rear, just so she can get the glory of launching that last missile into the enemy base. On her downtime, she enjoys pumping iron in the Aegis' rec hall, or trying to challenge one of her sisters to a wrestling match to display her superior strength.
Designation: SA-Delta
Codename: Psycho
Position: Interrogator
Psycho is... just as her codename implies... An error during her cloning process caused her to emerge with severe mental instability, turning her into the Aegis' resident psychopath. She relishes in causing death and pain of any kind, mostly to her enemies. Her behavior on and off the battlefield is so manic and unpredictable, she is forced to wear specially-designed shock bracelets that will deliver a nasty jolt to her upon command if she steps too far out of line. Psycho commands the red mech suit, and is always kept by Alpha's side so the squad leader can keep a close eye on her... She is usually sent in as a last resort unless accompanied by the rest of the team, usually because there's nothing left alive when she goes in alone... Otherwise, she delights in torturing information out of captured prisoners--or just torturing them for fun--using a variety of agonizingly painful tools at her disposal... The one person she dreams of strapping into a torture chair is none other than Samus Aran herself!
The four leading members of the Federation Force are kept separate from the rest of the ship's crew, in a restricted section under the tightest security to keep their true identities hidden from prying eyes. When they are not in their assigned section of the Aegis, the girls must be wearing their specially designed Federation trooper armor at all times, complete with a voice modulator chip built into the helmet. The only person who knows of their true identities and purpose is General Alex Miles, who relays their orders to Alpha personally to deliver to the other three. Outside of General Miles, only the higher-ups of the Federation know the secret of the Federation Force, and--before his untimely death--General Adam Malkovich personally oversaw inspections of the girls' progress in training and in the field on behalf of Federation Command, regardless of his opinions against the project.
Protocol SA-Omega
After the destruction of SR-388, Samus Aran found herself on the run from the Federation. She had encountered the Federation Force once before when they destroyed the Space Pirates' ultimate weapon, the DoomsEye, but she had no idea of their true identities or purpose. When news of Samus' treachery spread to high command, the Federation Force got the call they had been waiting for since their creation...
"Execute Protocol SA-Omega."
Protocol SA-Omega was programmed deep into their minds from birth, and--when triggered--would cause the Federation Force to halt whatever operations they were engaged in and focus all their resources on hunting down Samus Aran, dead or alive. The Federation Force now searches the galaxy for Samus, keeping her on the run until they can finally corner her. Psycho is looking forward to fulfilling her dream, ready to turn Samus into her personal plaything... As for the other three, they know that this may be the fight of their lives... The last time they fought Samus, she had been weakened by Space Pirate mind control; this time, the bounty hunter would be fighting at her fullest, and it would take the efforts of all four clones to bring her down...
Protocol SA-Sigma
Perhaps the worst crime the Federation committed beyond their secret weaponization of Metroids was the implementation of this protocol in their initial capture of Samus. Protocol SA-Sigma, like SA-Omega, is hardwired into the minds of the Federation Force members from birth, and it directs them to round up the civilian population of a planet and use the threat of their execution to lure out a dangerous fugitive--in this case, Samus Aran. When word got out that Samus was hiding out on a populated world, General Alex Miles relentlessly implemented Protocol SA-Sigma to ensure that the Federation Force didn't let her escape again. His desire for recognition for capturing the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy would spell doom for the civilians of the planet his prey was hiding on...
The Federation Force immediately descended on the planet and started to arrest and drag off innocent civilians one by one, killing those that tried to resist and broadcasting a message on all channels and frequencies, ensuring their target could hear them if she was still on the planet...
"Samus Aran, you have 24 hours to surrender to Federation justice! For every hour you do not surrender, one civilian will die! If you do not surrender within 24 hours, or if you try to leave the planet, we will execute the remaining prisoners!"
Samus was forced to endure hour after hour in the abandoned building where she was hiding as every execution was broadcast over every comm channel... Eventually, she gave in and went to the Federation Force camp to turn herself in, only for the heartless programmed soldiers to slaughter the remaining prisoners right in front of her after restraining her...
Samus would eventually escape her captivity after enduring months of agonizing experimentation, which only served to fuel her hatred for the Federation and the sins it had committed against her... Now, the Federation Force continue to hunt their prey across the galaxy, determined to bring her in, no matter the cost...
