Everen was born in a kobold tribe ruled by a black dragon. Their ruler was a real tyran that used the kobolds as slaves and food, forcing them to worship him and bring him gold. Everen hated that dragon. She knew that kobolds were meant to serve, but she refused to accept this tyran as her ruler. She wanted to find someone that she would want to serve. Someone that would take care of her.

She was part of the thief party, raiding villages near the dragon's den in order to bring him gold and valuables. One day however, she discovered a strange book. Even if she couldn't read, she tried to understand it's meaning through the pictures in it. What she didn't knew was that she discovered a book talking about shamanic magic. She then started to follow the pictures of the book, and learned very few, but still quite usefull magic tricks. When the dragon discovered that this kobold had kept an item for herself, he enraged. However instead of devouring her, he sent her to steal an item to a lonely person in the swamps and banned her. If she wanted to come back, she had to bring the object... or die trying.

Everen never wanted to leave her clan like that, and so she decided to go fetch the object. What she discovered however was an old witchdoctor that knew about her presence even though she was still hiding in the dark. The strange man greeted her in draconic and instead of chasing or attacking her, he began to talk to her. Everen was scared but she recognized some of the things pictured in her book. She started talking about it, and the witchdoctor began to explain her what it was, and then started teaching her things in draconic. Everen lost herself completely and stayed there with him for weeks, weeks that turned into months. The man was teaching her a lot of things, even if he was old. The man then explained that he was glad that the little kobold came to his hut, because he was terribly old and sick and was about to pass away. Even if Everen didn't knew her for long, she felt terribly bad and sad to learn that the man was dying, but she acceted his wish to become his apprentice. He taught her all he could before to die one day. That day, he willingly gave her a black totem, that was the thing she was supposed to bring back to her clan in order to get back. She cried a lot as the man died in his bed, and so she left in order to go back to the dragon's den.

When Everen reached the den, she discovered it destroyed. Adventurers had raided the den, killed the whole clan and the dragon. She only discovered death and blood. She left again, leaving this place behind her. Instead she decided to leave for an adventure, thinking that it was her chance to be free and discover the world.
