Eugene
Living in a dive somewhere in Nexus, Eugene makes his living word by word. A reporter by trade, he works the underground newsweekly business. The pay is lousy, but the work is interesting. Besides, not many humans are on the same beat he is: predatory activity.
He's had no shortage of close calls over the years, not always coming back unscathed, yet he writes like a sports writer. The dramatic struggle between predator and prey, through his words, enthralls his readers-and enrages others. However, he is anything but brash in his line of work.
Quiet and observant, he is always jotting down notes in his notepad, while typing drafts on his laptop. In the rare moments he does interact with his subjects-such on a rare interview-he says little and what he does say was clearly prepared before hand. As for how he handles his fans, he doesn't. He leaves no means by which he may be reached. In contrast to his writing, Eugene is an intensely private and cautious man. All the same, he approaches his subject matter with genuine interest and fearful respect.
No one knows why he got into his line of work, and he certainly isn't telling. As said before, the lousy pay rules out monetary gain. His reclusive nature rules out a desire for fame. His reasons are his own. All that matters otherwise is getting the story.
And staying one step ahead of any hungry pursuer...
