Etos/New Baval backstory
New Baval is the most huge, and most industrious nation on the planet Etos. This nation was born out of the ashes of the old nation/state of Baval, the nation’s capital New Baval City was built and founded two hundred miles south east of the old city Urnold, Old Baval’s capital city. The old nation of Baval was the greatest nation ever founded on Etos, but like all powerful nations Baval had to fall, after all, one can only hold the limelight for so long. The fall of Baval was a direct result of their fame and power. Baval had a strong philosophy of imperialism and conquest, and over the course of its two thousand year existence they had captured all the territories on the east side of the Mortur Mountains except the city state of Saeem. Tasting victory the Bavalian monarch (at the time King Letaf IV) ordered his armies to take Saeem. His army, two million men strong, met resistance as soon as they crossed into Saeemian territory. The well fortified Saeems held off the Bavalian Legions for three months, both sides taking heavy causalities. But eventually the Saeem army was forced to surrender and the Bavalian army marched to the gates of Saeem. Once they broke down the walls and stormed the city the armies found it to be strangely empty save for a few resistance fighters and the Saeem president Henry Rean. By the time the Legions had found out it was a trap flight was impossible and the Rean detonated his two secret nuclear warheads, one was launched at the Baval capital, the second detonated in Saeem. This suicidal attack for all intents and proposes ended the reign of Old Baval, as very few Old Bavalians survived. Those who did fled the irradiated wasteland that was their home. One such survivor was Donald Edrikson. Edrikson was an enterprising youg man, and a few years after the nuclear holocaust he and a loyal band of followers set up a trading outpost by the name of New Baval. This outpost was set up in the plains west of the Old Baval ruins. The prosperity of New Baval brought many settlers, and thirty years later enough people had settled at the outpost to make it a small city. Although, sadly, Edrikson did not get to see it grow into a small city as he died before his vision was complete. But, under the supervision of his son Franco Edrikson and with a plentiful food supply from the nearby farming towns New Baval grew quickly into a bustling metropolis. Many generations later under the guidance of Thomas Tevili New Baval declared itself a republic and began to expand its borders. But during the growth of New Baval another small city to the north had been doing the same. This city was named Snim, although the growth of Snim was not on the same scale as that of New Baval; Snim early leadership of the surviving Saeem cabinet put it on the right track. Also, the scientists who created the nuclear weapons of Saeem survived and had also helped with the founding of Snim. Although these scientists did not live long enough to replicate their work they contributed enough to the technology of Snim to make it powerful enough to challenge New Baval. Snim still harboring resentment about the conquest of Old Baval attacked New Baval, and fought for two years in the “New Age War”. The countries have now signed a cease-fire but are tensions are still high, skirmishes and guerilla attacks are not uncommon but full fledged war has not broken out again since the New Age War.
