Legends and myths have existed for as long as beings have learned to communicate. Tales of beings with mystifying power, rumors of artifacts serving mysterious purposes, stories of knowledge best left forgotten... when she was young, one particular spirit was enamored by all these tales, determined to dig into the truth of them all. High and low, near and far, she dug into the depths of the world to discover its secrets, investigating relics, delving into archiac texts, venturing into ruins of ages past, and even passing into worlds beyond. After lifetimes of searching, one fledgling ghost had an encounter that changed her life.

For better or for worse.

While most would have been scarred for life, if not lost altogether, the spirit was captivated, enamored, and inspired by her encounter with a living legend. Being in the presence of such a magnificent being brought a certain thrill that the common hex-slinging ghost had never felt before, bringing forth a new longing for her. A desire to ascend. To become a legend of her own on par with the monstrocity she had met. The way people spoke of it in whispers, the power to back it up, the air of mystery and mysticism that built all the way up to her chance meeting - The since-young Etoile craved it for herself.

This was well over thousands of years ago, and the spirit never paused pursuit of her dream all throughout. She's since dove through weathered tomes best left forgotten, performed utterly profane occult rituals, honed and trained her art ... evolving in both a literal and metaphorical sense, this mismagius has broken the boundaries of her species, wielding magic and curses considered unthinkable by even the eldest of her kind, willing to violate any taboo to satisfy her passion. And today, she has begun to ply her power, ready to spread her tale throughout the world and become the next notorious legend whispered from ear to ear.

So beware of such tales of spirits appearing with a chant to a mirror in the dark. Or stories of people vanishing after venturing into long-abandoned homesteads. Legends of vengeful ghosts haunting the halls of school after dark. Fables of unexplainable events in the woods outside town. Any one of these may just be true, and the one behind them intends to live up to the legend.
