Eremus

A time ago, a young girl was born to an unknown Enirii mother. Her mother knew nought if she would be long for the world, for she was far from her tribe and beset by predators, so the young mother placed her faith in the Green. She wrapped her newborn in furs and placed her in a basket, stetting the basket afloat upon the river and hoping some kind soul would find her. Her wish was answered, but 'twas not an Enirii that took the child under their wing.
One of the Aegyr, the great eagles from the high mountains, found the child drifting one day as she was hunting for fish, and rather than claim the small thing as prey, she took the child to her nest and raised it among her chicks. There, the young Enirii swiftly learned to climb, fish, and hunt the agile mountain goats, staying well clear of Bloodroot warbands, who hunted the eagles for their feathers, beaks, and claws, but rarely caught them. So she lived for near one and a half decades, under the watchful eye of the Aegyr, until one day, after she had spent the day hunting, her adoptive mother did not come back to carry her up the steep cliffs to the eyrie. The young woman did not fear what had happened, or if her adoptive mother had been slain at the hands of the bloodroot. It was quite simple- She was no longer a fledgling. Her mother had left her, for her flight feathers had grown, and it was time for her to leave the nest.
And so the girl wandered, learning bits and pieces of the enirii language as she traded fish, hides, and meat among the many tribes. She came to realize that her childhood was very irregular very swiftly, but felt no jealousy for those young girls she often saw playing between huts or in the fields. She had learned many things among the Aeygr many Enirii had not, as these children learned many things she hadn't. She had no talons, but with a stone she could make a branch sharp and spear fish that way. She had no wings, but she had learned well how best to sneak up upon the mountain goats, to drop on them from above and wrestle them to the ground. She found great passion for simply exploring the Shrouded Woods, seeing the many wonders of the lands. She was offered a place in many tribes of greenleaf Enirii, but she found their sedentary lifestyle full of breeding to be far too dull for her. The bloodroots were far too aggressive for her tastes, though in another life she may have found the offer of a life of raiding and pillaging attractive. So she remained a wanderer, offering hides, meat, and fish to the Greenleaf and occationally the Nightshade tribes in exchange for adornments, fur garments, dried fruits, and smoked meat.
One morn, upon lurking at the edge of a small clearing waiting for the local wildlife to show itself, the young woman witnessed a pitched battle between a small group of Enririi with gleaming weapons and a raiding party of Bloodroot tribeswomen. The smaller group came out the victor with their strange weapons, but retreated without collecting their dead, clearly concerned about the advent of more raiders. Fascinated, Eremus slipped through the trees and claimed one of those gleaming weapons from a fallen woman. The material it was made from proved harder and sharper than stone, and she soon figured out ways to keep it sharp and lusterous, taking good care of the implement as it took care of her. She found it was as adept at felling trees as it was beasts, and striking a stone against it produced sparks that she could use to start campfires. It has been her faithful companion for two years now, both a tool and a weapon that she holds with reverence.

The Aegyr are similar to massive eagles, each wing doubly as long as an Enirii is tall. They dwell at the highest peaks of the mountains, hunting fish, mountain goats, and bloodroot tribeswomen, if they can get away with it. Some Greenleaf villiages that live near the mountains make offerings to the great birds, as the creatures seem to be intelligent enough to recognize this and defend the villiages from large predators or inter-tribal raids. Not much is known about them, for the birds often fiercely attack any explorers brave or foolish enough to get too close to their nests, but they seem to live in small flocks of up to 20 members, with some sort of chain of dominance among the male birds. Some Enirii have successfully coaxed the birds into allowing them to ride them temporarally, though to date no one has ever reported an Aegyr being tamed.

The young woman has yet to meet any who have shaped her story in any significant way.
