In the past there where witch hunts, women getting hunted down with the assumption that they could perform magic, dark magic of course, when caught they were trial'd in which they would be thrown into a lake with a rock tied to their legs, if they died they were human, if they were a witch they would just escape. Another story is that they got burned when discovered, without trial even. But either way that is not the subject of the story here, however now in the future, about year 2143 when technology has reached a level where spiritualism and shamanism is more or less non-existant, not that most people actually knew it existed in the first place. Discovered in the year of 2037, shrine maidens were known to be oracles, curers and everything going along those lines with their spiritual magic. However as the years passed on and technology, medicine and so on become much better they were more or less abandoned, in fact in the end it turned into a new witch hunt, magic was evil, technology was good.
From the year of 2092-2120 all shrine maidens discovered or caught doing their miracles in public would be arrested and executed, of course in a more humane way than the witch burnings of the early ages, mostly execution by syringe. After the year of 2120 however these actions died down, and while they are still not condoned by the current government they are no longer being taken care of and executed, they are allowed to live their life as they see fit, people have learned to respect them at least a little bit again but they do not need to rely on them anymore, few people visits their shrines to give donations nowadays.
Elis was born a couple of years after the whole hunt was over, she would be the last shrine maiden in the Nakashima family line and she has made an oath with herself and of course her mother that she will at least get some faith back into the country's shrine maidens. It will be quite a hard quest for the young girl, she has to prove that she can perform miracles that are much much better than technology after all. She is quite a cheerful girl too of course, always wanting to make new friends, meet new people and show off what she has learned over the years with hard training. She lives in a mostly abandoned shrine on top of a hill near the capital city, a couple of people come to visit every now and then and give her some donations. She has not hid from technology completely of course, she can also often be seen walking around in the city wearing her usual shrine maiden attire of a red hakama and white kimono.
She is always afraid of the day where the government decides to resume their little hunt for the shrine maidens, she has seen reconnaissance drones owned by the local authorities fly by her shrine more than one time a day, sometimes they just go right past her and towards the other part of the city but other times they stop and start looking and filming around at the shrine herself. Not that they'd find anything unusual.
Some ideas
- You are a shrunken agent of the government, trying to spy on the lonely shrine maiden living outside of the city. Though the mission might go a little bit wrong when being busted by the giant shrine maiden...Or perhaps the mission is slightly forgotten when getting the chance to explore the body of a sleeping shrine maiden.
- Someone decides to help her out getting some revenge, by growing her to the size of a giantess and letting her have her way with the city next to the shrine.
- Like the idea above, except one of the friends she got in the highly technological city invites her to test our the new VR/Hologram experience, where maybe she and her friend gets to stomp around as giants in the city. Or one of them is giant and the other one is not.
