Cato Aldra is the leader of
Kitaro_Village and the oldest current resident. He is by far the most influential and powerful resident as well. He is known for his wisdom and quick thinking as well as his traditional views on how things should be. Though, this isn't to say he's afraid to think outside the box at time if needs be, either.
Cato is actually the 17th head of the village since it's founding and has also been the most progressive in the village's development. He is a strict man, mostly set in his ways and views, though he is kind and generous to those he respects or cares for.
Personality wise, like most old men, Cato tends to be stubborn or arrogant in many ways, though this is not to be taken as negative. He's got reasons for the way he is. He is a caring and kind man, who will do more than his fair share for his home or the people who live there if the need arises, even if it'd put his own life at risk. If he is able to, he will always be on the front lines of any problem that occurs to do his part in order to resovlve it quickly. Cato is a wise man, often knowing if a situation is out of the control of the villagers or not before even hearing about it more than once, or even seeing it for that matter. Usually this is simply a case of himself getting involed directly, though other times it does mean he will break tradition and his own rules in order to request outside aid in resolving the issue.
Physically, while he may seem old or beyond his prime, but Cato is actually physically capable of fist fighting a dragon and winning, even at his advanced age. Though, it is a feat he tends not to need to prve now want to have to. So don't underesitmate hime just because he's an old geezer. He's tall, well built and give off an air of authority to those around him. He has white hair that has yet to fall out, along with a long white beard that covers most of his front. His eyes, though you usually wouldn't be able to tell, are actually a striking rainbow hue, a symbol of him having recieved the blessing of Kitaras, the diety the village follows. He is one of the very few to ever recieve this and is how his body can perform such inhuman feats even at his current old age.
Being the leader of the village, Cato has to make important decisions, inforce laws, asign budgets to the various areas, oversee the harvests, lead defences against invasion, train the youth occasionally and educate them in the school when he has time. His duties don't stop there, however. He is also in charge of deciding who does or does not gain access to the village from outside, that is, peacefully anyway, as well as being the villages diplomat when it comes to heading out to other villages, cities, nations or other such places. Anyone who enters Kitaro must first visit the guards at the baracks to gain permission to enter, to which if Cato is unaware of their arrival beforehand, it is then up to him to allow or deny such entry. If he is aware, he usually has the guards ready to escort the guest to see him, before they can then conduct their business in the village. To make sure he is aware of anything and can take responsibility if anything happens.
He is also the one responsible for appointing the next Elder when he finally passes on. You might think that, being an elder simply means you are the oldest member of the village, such is the case with Cato. Though, in truth, it is simply the best way to translate the term used in Kita, the villages unique language. The term meaning respected, chief, leader, elder or monarch. In Kita, the word used would be Aldra, the same as Cato's last name. Though, there is no connection between this word and his name other than the fact they have the same meaning. He isn't the leader because of this. No, when the previous Elder nears the end of their life, they appoint the new leader to take their place and when the time finally does come, the new Aldra, Elder to outsiders, takes over. Sometimes even being one of the younger residents of the village confusing most who don't understand that the village translates it's words for those who don't know them and thus uses terms that may not seem to fit the situation. An 18 year old elder wouldn't make sense when there would likely be much older people around who'd fit that title far more, right? Well, this may end up being the case should Cato pass on.
The last thing one should know about him, is based on those reasons for him being stubborn or arrogant mentioned earlier. His stubborness is based on the villages laws and his way of thinking mixing rather well. Thus, he will normally stick to the laws as much as posssible, denying anyone who would propose a course of action he deems does not fit his ideals or the villages ways. Unless he knows there is no other course of action that should be taken, of course. Then he may break this himaself, but will not allow anyone else to do so. He must be the only one capable of taking the fall of such actions when they are taken. His arrogance stems from his knowledge that few in the world can stand up to him in battle. It isn't over confidence or outright arrogance, just that he knows that, unless you are equally blessed by divine might, you usually stand little chance against him. This has led him to handicap himself in order to enjoy battles more, by usually not using his weapon and just using bare hands. Hands capable of blocking blades unharmed or crushing mountains. He is skilled in martial arts and magic, while also being a master of the use of a Glaive, an polearm that consists of a large pole with a single edged blade at one end. Cato, when pushed in battle, will use his to devastating effect even being able to cancel out magical attacks with the blade or by spinning the weapon, or to deflect projectiles moving as fast as a bullet fired from a high power rifle. None have ever taken him on and won yet, nor is it likely they ever will as things stand. Though, you never know who or what might show up in the future. it is yet unknown what or even if his Glaive is enchanted with.
