Elaina grew up with a lot of brothers and sisters, the clutch she hatched from consisting of 13 eggs, of which Elaina was the last one to emerge. Being the 13th of 13 in the clutch combined with her being a little bit of a run compared to her siblings led to her being viewed as bad luck.
Due to her status as "the unlucky kid" Elaina grew up relatively issolated, even with the large ammount of siblings she had. Because of the isolation she ended up turning to books, falling in love with the fantastical worlds that they portrayed. Despite her size and "unlucky" status she did manage to survive until maturity, maybe due to her siblings believing that eating her would result in them inheriting her bad luck.
When she left home to find her own path and to avoid pushing her already stretched luck that let her survive for so long, she ended up finding Mansu university, applying to the course that most appealed to her, a course in writing and literature. She decided that she would aspire to learn how to write books that could lift the spirits of others the way the books she read had lifted her own spirits.
Elaina is a happy and bright girl, a lifetime of being told she was unlucky and that she should expect the worst teaching her to look on the bright side. Being raised in a huge family of insects, her "swarm", lead to a bit of a unique way of speaking, always speaking in the 3rd person. This was normal among her family but when she went out into the world she came to learn how uncommon it was. Because of this she can be a little timid at first, embarassed of her "Accent", although she will quickly open up and almost never stop talking if she gets onto the subjects of books, both those she has read and those she is writing herself.
As one would expect she can fly with her wings and inject poison with her stinger. She can change up the effects of the poison but the most common one she uses is a paralyzing one, usually used to escape predators of incapacitate prey. She can also produce silk from her abdomen, using it for binding people. She briefly considered trying to use the silk to make her own clothes but quickly gave up on the idea when she realised she was useless with a needle and thread.
She gets along well with both
