The ruling class has a responsibility to act with generosity and nobility toward the common folk. At least, that is what Lady Catherine Mably Fairchild believes. That those with power should stand on behalf of those without. That is why she has left behind a comfortable life to become a free knight so that she might protect the weak and defenseless. If only her parents were more understanding!
Eldest daughter to Lord Adrian Fairchild and Lady Louise, Catherine enjoyed a privileged upbringing and that included an education at an illustrious academy. While an exceptional student, she spent much of her time distant and dissatisfied. She found herself bored and yearning for some sort of higher calling which she found in the school’s libraries. The tales of brave knights rescuing damsels from dragons and demons were the ones she loved the most but, although she loved frilly dresses, it wasn’t the role of the damsel that enthralled her. Catherine wanted to be a Dame, a female knight! The heroic journeys and climatic clashes captivated her imagination and filled her with inspiration.
To that end, to the exasperation of her father, she left her studies behind and enlisted with a knightly order that her family carefully selected. One that would entertain Catherine until she hopefully got bored and keep her away from any real danger. With the money and respect that the Fairchild name carried, this was an easy enough feat. Handpicked instructors trained her just enough to wet her appetite but it was clear that wouldn’t be enough. Not for Catherine. Eventually her mentors relented and taught her properly how to use a sword and wield spells. She squired for tournament champions and watched men-at-arms scour goblins from farmlands but Catherine was always kept just from the fray. It became clear they would never let her go into harm’s way and once again she found herself dissatisfied
That is why, upon being knighted, Lady Fairchild cut ties and became a free knight. She left behind the comfort of the city and set out to see the whole of the kingdom. To sleep under stars and work for villages that needed aid. Only time will tell if this was a smart decision and whether or not her father will have the patience to let her carry on like this. The Fairchild name needs an heir and she is the eldest daughter.
